This section describes how Dayforce reprocesses existing time away from work (TAFW) requests for employees who become inactive or terminated. Further, it also describes how Dayforce processes requests in situations where an employee is already inactive, or is active but in the process of being terminated.
Important: The status change results and scenarios outlined below apply only when the Retain employee TAFW records on inactivating client property is disabled. This client property is available in System Admin > Client Properties, in the Properties tab, in the General section. When the Retain employee TAFW records on inactivating checkbox is enabled, Dayforce doesn’t reprocess or automatically update existing time away requests for employees who become inactive. For more information on this client property, see General in the Dayforce Implementation Guide.
| Status Change | Results | Tips |

| When an active employee becomes inactive... |

Inactive employees can still submit time away requests. It’s up to their managers to approve or deny such requests. |
| When an active employee is terminated... |
|
Active employees who are in the process of being terminated can still submit time away requests for dates before and after their termination date. For example, consider a scenario where an employee is active but their manager submitted the Terminate an Employee Form so that their status changes to “terminated” in a week. The employee can still submit time away requests because their status change hasn’t occurred yet. When the employee requests time away for dates that occur after their termination, their manager cannot approve the request because it falls outside of their “active” period. To support this, the request will contain only the Deny option. Further, such requests are marked as “pending” in TAFW reports until the manager acts on the request (that is, denies it). When the employee requests time away for dates that occur before their termination, Dayforce treats it as a standard request with both the Approve and Deny options available. |
