Schedule Transfers

In Schedules, you can record transfers by adding segments to shifts. A segment represents a portion of the shift where the shift details change. For example, if an employee transfers to another job assignment or is assigned to a different project for a portion of their shift, Dayforce represents each change with its own segment.

The segments appear automatically in timesheets and on Dayforce clocks.

Role feature access: Schedules > Enable Segment Display

This functionality differs from the add/edit transfers functionality in Timesheets because you can add transfers as you add shifts in Schedules, instead of recording the transfer at a later date. Scheduling transfers improves the accuracy of employees’ time and attendance records, which ensures that employees are paid correctly when their shift is split between different jobs.

For example, say that a manager at a shoe store is making the schedule for the week. One employee is required to work multiple jobs during a 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM shift. Therefore, the manager schedules a transfer by adding a segment from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, as shown in the following screenshot:

Add Schedule dialog box showing a segment from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Important: If a role that’s assigned access to schedule transfers is also assigned the Partial Shift Activities role feature, the Add Schedule dialog box in Schedules doesn’t show the Add Segment button.

With the transfer, this shift is divided into three segments:

  • First segment: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • Second segment: 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Third segment: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

When you add a shift with segments, Dayforce shows the segments on the shift:

The shift above is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The employee's main job assignment is in the Footwear department. However, the employee transfers twice during their shift: the first transfer is from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Men's Clothing, and the second is from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Women’s Clothing. Therefore, the shift is broken up into four segments.

The segments appear in the employee’s timesheet records and, because you already scheduled the transfers, the employee doesn’t have to manually transfer on the clock during their shift.

To control the segment details that Dayforce shows in shifts, you can use the Show Segment Details and Show Additional Details for Segments settings in the Options panel. Up to six segment details can appear:

  • Job Assignment
  • Location Type
  • Pay Code
  • Docket
  • Project
  • Labor Metrics
