Depending on how your instance of Dayforce is configured, you’ll see one of two dialog boxes in Schedules when you add or edit schedules. These dialog boxes offer similar functionality but with a few key differences.
Before You Begin: In Centralized Schedules, only the segment dialog boxes are available.
| Dialog Box Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Legacy |
The legacy version of the Add Schedule and Edit Schedule dialog boxes (sometimes called the legacy editors) contain several options to customize a shift. You can update the employee associated with shift, the job assignment, pay code, project, and more, depending on your Dayforce configuration. You can also add and edit meals and breaks, and adjust the shift times and length:

| Segment |
Role feature access: Schedules > Enable Segment Display The segment version of the Add Schedule and Edit Schedule dialog boxes (sometimes called the segment editors) also contain several options to customize a shift. The main feature of these dialog boxes is the ability to add segments to your employees’ shifts. A segment represents a portion of the shift where the shift details change. For example, if an employee typically transfers to another job assignment or is assigned to a different project for a portion of their shift, you can add a segment for each change. With segments configured, the employee doesn’t need to manually transfer between job assignments, projects, or other criteria during their shift:
In this example, Aaron Holman’s shift has two distinct segments: a 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM segment working as a Produce Clerk, and a 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM segment working as a Meat Clerk. Aaron doesn’t need to manually perform this transfer on a Dayforce clock because the transfer is already configured in the schedule. |
