In the Analyze Pay Rules slide-out panel, Dayforce shows the selected employee’s earnings before and after being processed by the Dayforce rule engine. Use this data to audit your pay policy rulesets and trace how Dayforce updates an employee’s pay based on their pay policy assignment.
The pay summary information in the Breakdown subtab is divided into two sections: Output and After All Rules. The Output section is dynamic. Depending on your selection in the ruleset panel, this section shows either the employee’s pay before exposure to the Dayforce pay rule engine, or how it’s affected by a specific pay rule you’ve selected in the panel. The After All Rules section shows the employee’s pay after being processed by each rule in their pay policy. This section is static because it always shows the same data regardless of your selection in the ruleset panel.
By default, when you access the Analyze Pay Rules slide-out panel, Dayforce shows the Breakdown subtab containing the employee’s pay summary before any rules are applied, with Before Rules selected in the ruleset panel. The option that’s selected in the ruleset panel is duplicated above the Output section to indicate what is shown in the pay summary:
When Before Rules is selected in the ruleset panel, Dayforce shows the same pay summary information in the Output section that’s available in the Pay panel of Timesheets. In the screenshot below, the employee earned $160.00 for their shift on December 13. Dayforce shows the employee’s base earnings in the Work Details subsection:
In the After All Rules section, Dayforce shows the employee’s pay after being processed by the application’s pay rule engine. In the example above, the employee earned a $5.00 premium on December 13, shown in the Premiums subsection. Dayforce shows the employee’s final pay figure in the Grand Total row.
When you click a pay rule that affected an employee’s pay in the ruleset panel, Dayforce highlights the employee’s updated pay in green. In the screenshot below, the Insert Premium Rule calculated a $5.00 premium for the employee and Dayforce shows the premium details in the Premiums subsection:
You can expand and collapse the Work Details and Premiums subsections by clicking the black arrow.
Depending on your organization’s pay policy configuration, Dayforce might update an employee’s shift details after running the pay rule engine. For example, when Dayforce determines that an employee is eligible for a different pay rate for worked hours, the employee’s shift details are updated in lieu of a separate premium. In such a case, Dayforce shows updated shift details in green and outdated, overwritten changes in red. In the example below, the Weekly OT Rule updated a shift’s pay category and rate. Dayforce shows the updated pay category and rate in green, while the shift’s original details are crossed-out, in red:
Further, depending on how your instance of Dayforce is configured, employees might earn pay on days with no marked time segments (that is, days with no shifts, pay adjustments, or time away periods). For example, when employees are assigned to a pay policy that pays holiday premiums, the holidays in your timesheet grid might not indicate that an employee earned a premium because it hasn’t yet been calculated. In this scenario, when you select a holiday in the grid and click Tracer > Pay, Dayforce shows the employee’s earnings after the pay rule engine runs and processes the holiday pay requirements.
