Overview of Primary Address Updates

To record a change of primary residence, you should add a new primary address record to the form. Don’t delete or edit the old primary address record that is already in the form. For example, don' t set the old primary address to be a secondary address. Deleting or editing an old primary address can cause employees not to have a valid address covering earlier dates, which can lead to issues with benefits calculation or other areas of Dayforce.

Dayforce allows employees to have more than one primary address record on file as long as only one primary address is active. When you add the new primary address record and submit the form, Dayforce automatically sets the End Date field of the old primary address record to the day before the start date of the new record. This way, the old address will be inactive when the new address becomes active.

Note: Dayforce doesn't assign an end date to a primary address when you add a new secondary address. Conversely, adding a new address won't cause existing secondary addresses to be end-dated. This is because employees can have more than one secondary address active on a given date. If a secondary address is no longer valid, you must manually assign an end date.

Addresses Associated with Taxes (US Employees Only)

Dayforce doesn't allow you to delete an address that has been associated with taxes that were manually added for the employee (taxes are manually added in the Employee Payroll Tax section of the Payroll> Tax Definitions screen of People). In this case, if you attempt to delete an address and save, Dayforce generates an error message indicating that the address can't be deleted because it has been used for tax purposes.

Note: If an address is no longer valid, you can still assign an effective end date to it.
