Manage Unfilled Shift Bids

In Schedules and Centralized Schedules you can configure and post unfilled shifts so that employees can bid to pick them up. You can also review and approve shift bids.

Role feature access:

  • Centralized Schedules (optional)
  • Schedules > Post Unfilled Shifts > Mass Publish and Unfilled Shift Bidding
  • Schedules > Shift Bidding

When shift bidding is enabled in Dayforce, the Add Schedule dialog box shows the post unfilled schedule icon () when you create unfilled shifts. To make unfilled shifts eligible for bidding, you must post them. Depending on how your Dayforce instance is configured, posted unfilled shifts might be available in Shift Marketplace for employees to claim. See Unfilled Shifts for Shift Marketplace.

When you post unfilled shifts for bidding, you can review the unfilled shifts and employee bids in the Manage Shift Bids panel. To open this panel, click Manage Shift Bids in the toolstrip. The panel contains information about all of the posted unfilled shifts for the week:

Manage Shift Bids panel.

Note: This panel is unavailable in Schedules in the Bar View if the segment editor is enabled (that is, when the Schedules > Enable Segment Display role feature is assigned). In this scenario, you have to switch to the Grid View to open the Manage Shift Bids panel. For more information about the segment editor, see Schedule Dialog Boxes.

The panel shows standard shift information (like the date, job assignment, and start and end times), the total number of bids on each shift, and the number of unfilled shifts on the specified day.

To send employees a notification about the available unfilled shifts, click Send Shift Available Alert. Dayforce updates the panel to show when a notification was last sent and by whom.

Click the down arrow () to expand the date and view employee bids. Dayforce shows additional information that can help you make a decision, such as employees’ base rates, current weekly hours, and seniority dates:

Expanded section in the Manage Shift Bids panel.

To change the columns that Dayforce shows in this section, click View. The Column View dialog box opens, where you can select columns and their order.

See the following topics:

Unfilled Shift Bidding Sessions

Depending on how Dayforce is configured, you might be able to add unfilled shifts that employees can bid on in a bidding session. In these bidding sessions, employees must bid on unfilled shifts during an allotted, scheduled time period (that is, a bid window). Most of a bidding session’s details are already set in Dayforce, but you can still modify the session and add groups and bid windows, if necessary.

For employees, this functionality is identical to ad hoc shift bidding. Employees still bid on shifts in Work > Calendar and notifications still inform them when shifts are available and whether their shift bid is awarded. The only difference is that employees must submit their bids within the bid window. If an unfilled shift is associated with a bidding session, Dayforce marks the unfilled shift with the bid window details in Work > Calendar.
