Manage Shift Trade Requests

When employees trade, offer, accept, or swap shifts, managers receive a notification in Approvals, where they can view, manage, and respond to shift trade and legacy shift bid requests.

Shift Trade Requests

Role feature access: Application Container > Approvals > Unfilled Shift Trade

When you click a shift trade request, the request details open, which include information such as the requestor, the request status, and the details of the shift being traded:

Shift trade details.

To expand a panel that contains more detailed information, click the arrow () in the request details. Dayforce shows information such as the scheduled start and end times of segments, breaks, and meals, and any shift level comments.

You can approve or deny shift trades as follows:

  • In the list of pending approvals, click Approve or Deny.
  • Click the request in the list of pending approvals. In the request details, click Approve or Deny.

When you approve or deny a request, the employee receives a notification in Message Center.

Note: If managers are required to approve a shift trade request by a specified time before the start of the shift, managers must have the same shift trade policy as their employees. See Shift Trading Policies in the Dayforce Implementation Guide.

Legacy Shift Bid Requests

Before You Begin: For more information about legacy shift bidding, see Legacy Shift Bidding in the Dayforce Implementation Guide.

Role feature access: Application Container > Approvals > Unfilled Shift Bid

Dayforce marks shift bid requests in Approvals with a shift bid icon (). When you click a shift bid request, the request details expand to show information such as the requestor, the request status, and the details of the shift that needs to be filled:

Unfilled Shift Bid request details.

If there are multiple bids on a shift, select the employee you want to award the shift to and click Approve.

When employees cancel an unfilled shift bid request after you’ve approved it, you can approve the cancellation. Dayforce marks cancellation requests that require action with the Cancellation Pending status.

To approve an unfilled shift bid cancellation:

  1. Go to Approvals.
  2. Select the canceled unfilled shift bid that you want to approve. The request details open.
  3. Click Approve.

After you approve a cancellation request, the request status changes to Canceled and Dayforce removes the shift from the employee’s calendar. If you don’t approve a cancellation request, the shift remains approved on the employee’s calendar.
