The following table describes the settings in the Employment Status tab of the Employment > Employment Settings screen in People. The settings are split into the following sections: General, Compensation and Hours, and Policies and Groups.

| General | |
| Effective From | The date that the employment status record becomes effective. |
| Effective To | The date that the employment status record is no longer effective. |
| Employment Status | The employee's status. For example, Active, Inactive, or Terminated. An employee's status describes whether they are available to work. Statuses are configured in HR Admin > Status. |
| Pay Class |
The employee's category of employment such as part-time or full-time. Pay classes are configured in HR Admin > Pay Class. |
| Employee Number | The employee number. In some cases, Dayforce autogenerates this field. See Generate New Employee Numbers. |
| Reason | The reason for the updates that you’re making to the status record. Reasons are configured in HR Admin > Employment Status Reason. |
| Generate New Employee Number | Generates a new employee number in the Employee Number field. See Generate New Employee Numbers. |
| Manager |
The name of the employee’s manager. Clicking the manager’s name opens the employee card for that manager. The manager’s employee card is only shown if you have access to that manager in Dayforce. Also, if Dayforce is configured to allow employees to have more than one manager, the Manager field includes the More link, which you can click to view the names of all of the employee's managers. | Department |
The name of the generic department associated with the employee’s primary work assignment. For more information on the value shown in this field, see Field Values for Past, Current, and Future Status Records. Role authorization access: Employee Work Assignment - Primary Records Note: In Dayforce, there is a distinction between generic departments and the department-level org units that are part of an org hierarchy. For example, while Sales is a generic department, the Sales department in Toronto or Orlando are actual org units where employees work. Generic departments are configured in the Departments tab of Org Setup > Organization. |
| Job |
The name of the job that the employee’s primary work assignment job assignment is under. Note: Jobs and job assignments in Dayforce form a hierarchy where a job is a parent to a set of similar job assignments. | Primary Location |
The name of the physical org unit associated with the employee's primary work assignment. For example, if the employee's work assignment is at an onsite department, this field shows the name of the location that the department is under. | Pay Type |
The payment type for the employee. For example, salaried or hourly. Pay types are configured in HR Admin > Pay Type. |
| Annual Salary |
The employee's yearly salary. Editable only when a salary pay type is selected in the Pay Type drop-down list. |
| Periodic Salary |
The employee’s periodic salary. Editable only when a salary pay type is selected. Note: Only shown if it's enabled for your role feature. |
| Base Rate |
The employee's base hourly rate. Editable only when an hourly pay type is selected in the Pay Type drop-down list. |
| Pay Grade |
The pay grade associated with the employee's job. Role authorization access: Pay Grade and Pay Grade - Name For more information about the value shown in this field, see Field Values for Past, Current, and Future Status Records. |
| Compa-Ratio |
The percentage calculated as the employee’s pay amount in relation to the control point of the pay grade for their job. The control point is the amount that most employees earn (also known as the market rate). For example, a compa-ratio of 100% means that the employee is paid at the control point. | Default Target Bonus (%) |
Read-only field that shows the percentage used to define the target bonus for the employee. The value is defined in the job assignment of the employee's primary work assignment and is used by the Compensation module. See Configure Target Bonuses in the Compensation Guide. |
| Target Bonus Override (%) | (Optional) The percentage to override the percentage shown in the Default Target Bonus (%) field. This value is used by the Compensation module. See Configure Target Bonuses in the Compensation Guide. |
| Bonus Grade |
The name of the bonus grade associated with the employee's job. This field is shown only if Dayforce is configured to use job factor points for pay grades. This is configured by selecting the Pay Grade - Use Job Factor Point System checkbox in the General section of the Properties tab in System Admin > Client Properties. | Vacation Rate |
The hourly rate that the employee is paid while on vacation. |
| Overtime Rate |
The hourly rate that the employee is paid when working overtime. |
| Alternate Rate |
The alternate hourly rate for the employee. Typically, the alternate rate is applied to part-time employees who earn a higher pay rate before working beyond an amount of weekly hours. |
| Daily Rate |
The employee's daily hourly rate. |
| Average Daily Hours |
The average number of hours that the employee works daily. This value can be used in overtime calculations. |
| Normal Weekly Hours |
The hours that an employee typically works each week. |
| Reason for Change in Normal Weekly Hours | (Germany only) The reason why the employee's hours in the Normal Weekly Hours field were changed. |
| Normal Semi Monthly Hours (Top) |
The default hours for the respective first (top) and second (bottom) halves of the month. |
| Normal Semi Monthly Hours (Bottom) | |
| Monthly Hours |
The average monthly hours stipulated in an employee's contract or agreement. Use this field when an employee's monthly hours of work are not standard (for example, 52 weeks per year or 4 weeks per month). Otherwise, use the Normal Weekly Hours field. For employees paid monthly, the value in the Monthly Hours field drives salary calculations using these formulas:

| Last Pay Date | Field where you can optionally enter a date after the employee's termination date to continue to show the employee in Payroll for the pay period that the entered date falls within (for example, to allow you to create quick entries or checks after termination). If you don’t enter a date, Dayforce uses the termination date as of the last pay date, and the employee doesn't appear in Payroll after the pay period in which their termination date falls unless they are manually added to the pay run. |

Compensation Changes: Read-only section that shows a list of the employee's compensation changes. |

| Reason | The reason selected for the compensation change. |
| Type | The type of compensation change entered. For example, if the pay was increased by a percentage, it shows % Amount. |
| Amount | The change amount. |
| Change Date | The date of the change. |
| Policies and Groups | |
| Pay Group |
The pay group to assign to the employee. Pay groups describe the pay cycle for groups of employees. They are configured in Pay Setup > Pay Group. |
| Pay Policy |
The pay policy to assign to the employee. Pay policies apply pay rules and qualifiers to employees' worked time in the Workforce Management module, so that their gross pay is properly calculated. They are configured in Pay Setup > Pay Policy. |
| Payroll Policy (Net Pay) |
The payroll policy to assign to the employee. Payroll policies contain rules and qualifiers that are used by the Payroll feature to assign earnings and deductions to appropriate employees, so that their wages are properly calculated. They are configured in Payroll Setup > Payroll Policies. |
| Rate Policy |
The rate policy assigned to the employee (either a base rate policy or job step policy, depending on your organization's configuration). Base rate policies define how employees progress through the levels of a base rate set. They are configured in the Base Rate Policy tab of Pay Setup > Base Rate Set. Job step policies are used to assign configurable job step rules and qualifiers so that employees are assigned the correct job set levels and pay rates. They are configured in the Job Step Policy tab of Pay Setup > Job Rate. |
| Employee Group |
The employee group to assign to the employee. Employee groups are used to organize employees into groups for reporting and scheduling purposes and are configured in HR Admin > Employee Group Admin. |
| Entitlement Policy |

| Time Entry Policy |
The time entry policy to assign to the employee. Time entry policies control which time entry method the employee uses, as well as optional rules and validation applied when the employee records working time. They are configured in Pay Setup > Time Entry Policy. |
| Overtime Group | The overtime group to assign to the employee. |
| Holiday Group |
The holiday group to assign to the employee. Holiday groups are used to assign a set of dates as holidays to the employee. These groups are configured in Pay Setup > Holiday Group. |
| Time Off Policy |
The time off policy to assign to the employee. Time off policies are used to control when employees can request time away from work. They’re configured in Time Away From Work > Time Off Policy. |
| Attendance Policy | The attendance policy to assign to the employee. Attendance policies are used to define attendance management elements like incident types, grades, and violations. They are configured in Pay Setup > Attendance. |
| Period Authorization Policy |
The period authorization policy to assign to the employee. These policies are used to automatically authorize all days in a pay period. They are configured in Pay Setup > Period Authorization Policy. |
| Schedule Change Policy |
The schedule change policy to assign to the employee. Schedule change policies are used to configure penalties that trigger when managers change an employee's schedule without a predetermined amount of advance notice. They are configured in Schedule Setup > Schedule Change Policy. |
| Schedule Rule Policy |
The schedule rule policy to assign to the employee. Schedule rule policies influence how employees can be scheduled and the severity of violating different scheduling policies. They are configured in Schedule Setup > Schedule Rule Policy. |
| Shift Trading Policy |
The shift trading policy to assign to the employee. Shift trading policies control which employees can make shift trades, swaps, bids, or retrades, and whether they require supervisor approval to do so. They are configured in Schedule Setup > Shift Trading Policy. |
| Shift Rotation |
The shift rotation to assign to the employee. Shift rotations are used to assign a repeating series of shifts to an employee, to aid in creating schedules. They are configured in the Shift Rotation tab of Scheduling Plan > Shift Setup. Note: Dayforce lists the rotations that apply to the locations the employee can work at. |
| Shift Rotation Offset | (Shown only when an option is selected in the Shift Rotation drop-down list.) The number of days the employee's rotation is offset. If you provide a value other than zero, the series of shifts scheduled in the employee's rotation are offset, or staggered, by the specified number of days. |
| Shift Rotation Start Date |
(Shown only when an option is selected in the Shift Rotation drop-down list.) The date that Dayforce uses to count what shift in the rotation is scheduled for the employee on any given day. For example, if you select January 1, then on January 5, Dayforce schedules the shift on the 5th day of the employee's rotation. Note: The date that you enter must be on the same day of the week that the selected shift rotation is configured to start on. This is typically a Monday. |
| Create Schedule from Rotation | (Shown only when you select an option in the Shift Rotation drop-down list.) Checkbox that you can select for Dayforce to only populate schedules using the employee's shift rotation. |
