Create Time Away from Work Requests for Employees

To create a time away from work request for an employee:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Go to Approvals and click Request New Time Off.
    • Go to Centralized Schedules load a location, and expand the grouping hierarchy to view the schedule. Select a cell, click the arrow, and then click New Time Away.
    • Go to Multi-Week Calendar, load a location, and select a cell. Click the add icon or click Add New Time Away in the toolstrip, depending on your configuration.
    • Go to Schedules, load a location, and select a cell. Click the arrow and select New Time Away.
    • Go to Timesheets, load a location, and select a cell. Click the arrow and select Add New Time Away.
  2. A new time away from work request opens in a dialog box or slide-out panel.
  3. (Approvals only) Select an employee.
  4. Select the time away reason. Dayforce filters the options in this list based on the selected employee. After you select a reason, Dayforce shows the balance type, remaining, and unit (for example, hours or days) for the employee:

  6. Enter the request’s start and end dates.
  7. If available, specify the type of time away, such as all-day or partial-day. The options that are shown depend on how Dayforce is set up.
  8. If you selected an option that requires additional input, such as Partial Day or Day Segments, specify the portion of the day that you want for time away.
  9. (Optional) If available, to attach files to the request, click Upload Files in the Supporting Documents section. See Attach Supporting Documents to Time Away Requests.
  10. (Optional) To override hours in the time away request so that you don’t have to make any manual adjustments to the timesheet, expand the Override Hours panel. See Override Time Away from Work Hours.
  11. (Optional) To view an employee to cover the time off period, expand the Employee Coverage panel. Click the dates that require coverage. Dayforce shows a list of available employees.
  12. Note: Depending on your configuration, the list of available employees includes employees with any job or employees with the same job as the employee requesting time away. See Application Container in the Dayforce Implementation Guide.
  13. (Optional) In the Manager Comment field, enter your comments.
  14. Do one of the following:
    • To save the request and approve it later, click Save.
    • To both save and approve the request, click Approve.
