Configure the Task’s Budgeted Time

After you click Next, Dayforce shows the Budgeted Time section of the wizard:

To configure the task’s budgeted time:

  1. In the Duration Type drop-down list, select how budgeted time is based:
    • Select Fixed to define a specific number of hours the task should be completed in.
    • Select Location Property to create a task with a variable number of hours. The actual amount is based on the value for a selected location property, such as a location’s square footage, multiplied by a set number of hours for the property value. So, you could define tasks that have a budget of 30 seconds per square foot and a location that is 2,000 square feet has a budget of 1,000 minutes.
    • Select Productivity Standard to create a task based on a productivity standard. Productivity standards are used to measure the amount of time a task should take to complete. For example, if a receiving task’s duration depends on the number of deliveries the location receives, select the “Delivery” productivity standard so that when users define a task based on this template they can specify the number of hours per delivery and the number of deliveries that day.
    • Select Task Index Template and Dayforce applies the selected task index template so that hours are budgeted dynamically to the appropriate locations.
  2. Define the labor budget for the task:
  3. If you selected Fixed:
    • Enter the task’s labor budget in the number field. This field is set to 0.00 by default. This budget is measured in the units you select from the adjacent drop-down list.
    • Select the task’s labor budget unit in the drop-down list. The options are: Hour(s), Minute(s), and Second(s). By default, task labor budgets are measured in hours.
  4. If you selected Location Property:
    • Enter the task’s budgeted allotment in the number field. This field is set to 0.00 by default. This allotment is measured in the units you select from the adjacent drop-down list and is multiplied by the value configured in location’s set up for the associated property value you select in the final drop-down list.
    • Select the task’s labor budget unit in the drop-down list. The options are: Hour(s), Minute(s), and Second(s). By default, task labor budgets are measured in hours.
    • Select which location property the task’s labor budget is based on. Continuing the example above, if you wanted to create a task based on a location’s square footage, where a task should take 30 seconds to complete for each square foot in a store, you’d select Location Property in the Basis Type drop-down list, enter 30.00, select Seconds, and then select Store Sq Ft:
    • Duration Type section with a configuration of 30 seconds per square foot in the store.
  5. If you selected Productivity Standard:
    • Enter the task’s budgeted allotment per unit of the productivity standard in the number field. This field is set to 0.00 by default. This allotment is measured in the units you select from the adjacent drop-down list and is multiplied by the productivity standard you select in the final drop-down list.
    • Select the task’s labor budget unit in the drop-down list. The options are: Hour(s), Minute(s), and Second(s). By default, task labor budgets are measured in hours.
    • Enter the default amount of units for the productivity standard in the Default Units field. For example, if the task’s duration is based on the number of trucks in a delivery, and normally locations receive three trucks per delivery, enter 3.00 in this field.
    • Select which productivity standard the task’s labor budget is based on. Continuing the example above, select the Trucks productivity standard in the last drop-down list:
    • Duration Type section with a productivity standard configuration of 12 hours for every 3 trucks.
  6. If you selected Task Index Template:
    • Enter the task’s labor budget in the number field. This field is set to 0.00 by default. This budget is measured in the units you select in the adjacent drop-down list.
    • Select which productivity standard the task’s labor budget is based on.
    • Select the necessary template in the drop-down list. This is the template that Dayforce uses to distribute the hours and assign locations.
  7. In the Default Assigned Start Time field, specify the time that employees are assigned to work on the task.
  8. In the Default Assigned End Time field, specify the time that employees’ work should end for the task. These fields define when employees should work on the task.
  9. Select the Can Assign Before Start Date checkbox and managers, supervisors, or other users with access can assign employees to work before the task’s start date. Clear the checkbox and employees can only be assigned to work tasks that have started. This checkbox isn’t enabled if the task impacts schedules.
  10. Select the Can Assign After Due Date checkbox and managers, supervisors, or other users with access can assign employees to work the task even after the task’s due date. Clear the checkbox and employees can only be assigned to work tasks that aren’t overdue. This checkbox isn’t enabled if the task template impacts schedules.
  11. Select the Assignments Can Exceed Budget checkbox and Dayforce doesn’t limit the amount of employee time is assigned to work on the task. Clear the checkbox and managers, supervisors, or other users with access can only assign up to the task’s labor budget. This checkbox is selected and can’t be cleared if the task impacts schedules.
