Approvals

You can use the Approvals feature to review and respond to your employees’ work requests, such as:

  • Availability changes
  • Missed clock entries
  • Overtime banking requests
  • Shift bids
  • Shift trade requests
  • Time away requests (see Manage Time Away from Work)

To open Approvals, click the approvals icon () or the pending approvals icon () in the toolbar, or go to Message Center and click Approvals.

If you’re in upper management and click the pending approvals icon, Dayforce doesn’t show any pending approvals until you select a manager in the Filter & Sort panel.

Approval Request Details

Click a request to view its details. The request details depend on the request status and type (for example, a time away request or a shift trade request). For example, when you click a time away request, the request details open in an overlapping window.

In this window, you can:

  • Modify the request details.
  • View a breakdown of the employee’s remaining balances in the Balances section.
  • View which employees can cover the employee while they’re away. In the Employee Coverage section, Dayforce shows the number of employees available for each day. Click the number and Dayforce shows the list of available employees.
  • View employee comments and enter manager comments.
  • Change the requested hours, if you’re authorized.

Approvals Reports

You can run the following reports in Approvals:

  • Employee Balance Report
  • Employee TAFW Report
  • TAFW Calendar Report

Filter Approvals

By default, Dayforce filters Approvals by the manager who’s logged in, and includes pending and cancellation pending approvals that require action, ranging from one month previous to the current day to one year in the future from the current day. When you click Filter & Sort, additional filter and sorting options open:

  • Employee Name
  • Approval Type (approval types include availability, overtime banking, shift trades, time away from work, unfilled shift bids, unfilled shift trades, and vacation bidding.
  • Status
  • Date Range
  • Location
  • Manager
  • Add Filter
  • Actionable (this switch is on by default to include only approval items that require action).

Sort Approvals

You can sort your approvals by up to three criteria, depending on how you prefer to view your employees’ requests.

To sort your approvals:

  1. Go to Approvals and click Filter & Sort.
  2. Click Sorting Options.
  3. Note: For Seniority Date to be shown, you must enable the Approvals Show Seniority Date client property. See General in the Dayforce Implementation Guide.
  4. In the Sorting Options dialog box that opens, use the arrows to move options from the Available column and to the Selected column.
  5. In the Selected column, use the arrows to order the sorting options. Dayforce sorts your approvals by the first selection in the list, then by the second, and finally by the third.
  6. Select whether you want the criteria sorted in ascending or descending order.
  7. Click Select and then click Apply.
