Add Activities to Shifts

In Schedules, you can schedule important activities that employees must perform during the workday. For example, a retail store might schedule the Opener and Cash Closer activities to at least one employee each day, so that there’s an employee working who’s responsible for opening the store and another who’s responsible for closing the cash registers.

The activities that are available in Schedules depend on how Dayforce is configured. These activities have already been set up to match the important activities that your organization tracks and needs to schedule.

Dayforce links each activity to the job assignments that can perform them. Continuing the example above, the Opener activity is linked to the different manager and assistant manager job assignments configured in Dayforce. This ensures that you can schedule only appropriate employees to perform activities.

How you schedule activities depends on whether you use the Grid View or the Bar View.

Grid View

To schedule an activity in the Schedules Grid View:

  1. Go to Schedules and load a schedule.
  2. Select a shift and then click the edit icon.
  3. Click the down arrow next to the Add Meal button and then click Add Activity. You won’t see this option until at least one activity is configured for the job assignment. If there’s a zone configured for the activity, the zone must match that of the job assignment for it to appear.
  4. In the drop-down list, select the activity that you want to schedule.
  5. Enter activity’s start and end times.
  6. Click OK.

Bar View

Before You Begin: If segment display is enabled in Schedules, go to System AdminRoles and, in the Features tab, enable the Schedules > Partial Shift Activities role feature. Otherwise, the add activity icon won’t appear.

In the Bar View, when you add activities, Dayforce automatically highlights the employees that can work the activity and shades out the employees that can’t. In the following example, only two employees can work the Womens Sales activity:

  • Two highlighted employees on the schedule.
  • To schedule an activity in the Bar View:

    1. Go to Schedules and load a schedule.
    2. Click the add activity icon ().
    3. In the Add Activity list, select an activity.
    4. Click the shift at the point that you want the activity to start and drag it so that it’s the appropriate length:

    6. To add the activity to the shift, release the cursor.

You can also add the activity in the Edit Shift Details slide-out panel in Schedules.
