If Tips are paid out to an employee on a check and there are no Hours worked associated with another earnings entry (as defined in the individual Earning setup under Groupings) on that check, none of the tips will be included in the garnishment calculation. The only portion of tips that can be included in the gross wages for garnishment purposes is the amount of tips to get the employee to the guaranteed pay (Hours Worked x Federal Minimum Wage). Because no Hours Worked are present, it cannot calculate the guaranteed pay. Even if Hours are entered for an Earnings type that does not have the “Hours Worked” parameter checked in the earnings setup, the Hours will not be included even if the Hours Worked are entered.
