The ATO Employee Commencement Form is used to share the information from the Employee tax and super details summary PDF provided to employees by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). When newly onboarded employees access Dayforce, for the first time they're directed to the myGov site to complete a new employment form. (For more information, see https://www.ato.gov.au/Business/Single-Touch-Payroll/Single-Touch-Payroll-for-employees/New-employees/).
After completing and submitting the ATO’s new employment form on the myGov site, employees return to Dayforce. Next, they complete the ATO Employee Commencement Form to submit a copy of the Employee tax and super details document given to them on the myGov site.
Before You Begin: In Documents > Admin > Document Types, grant the proper role permissions to the Employee Witholding and Superannuation Detail document type. See Document Types in the Dayforce Implementation Guide.
In Workflow Administration > Role Privileges, set up the ATO Employee Commencement Form and Employee Commencement ATO Superannuation Detail Form with the following details:
| Form | Parent Feature | Workflow |
|---|---|---|
| ATO Employee Commencement | Any | Any |
| Employee Commencement ATO Superannuation Detail Form | HR Profile Forms List | Australian ATO Employee Commencement Service Workflow |
Employees select one of the following options in the form:
- I have a new employment event ID: Indicates that the employee has completed the new employment form on the myGov site. Selecting this option shows the New Employment Event ID field where the employee needs to enter their ID to allow Dayforce to access their tax details from the ATO.
- I do not have a myGov account: Indicates that the employee can’t complete the new employment form on the myGov site and needs to complete both the Tax File Number Declaration form and the Superannuation Standard Choice form instead.
Next, the employee must attach the PDF of the Employee tax and super details document from the myGov site using the Employee Withholding And Superannuation Detail Document document type. Then, the employee can submit the form.
Retrieval of employee taxation and superannuation information from the ATO is a two-part process:
- The employee submits their transaction detail through the ATO Employee Commencement Form.
- Dayforce retrieves the data through the Employee Commencement ATO Superannuation Detail Form.
After Dayforce retrieves the employee’s information from the ATO, the employee’s tax information can be viewed in People:
- Tax details can be viewed on the Payroll > Tax Definitions screen.
- Superannuation details can be viewed on the Payroll > Superannuation screen.
