Payroll
Virtual

If the employee works remotely, select the Virtual checkbox, and Dayforce designates the employee's primary residence as their work address and applies taxation requirements, based on the residential address (or work location, if applicable). If you select this checkbox, the Telecommuter % field isn't available.

Dayforce also uses this checkbox to determine if an employee is virtual when calculating eligibility for Long Service Leave (LSL). Because LSL requirements are different in many states and territories, their location might affect their eligibility.

Note: For more information on using the Virtual checkbox for employees in Canadian pay groups, see Virtual Checkbox for Canadian Employees.

Work Location Override

If the employee physically works in a different location than the one assigned to them, select that location in the drop-down list so that Dayforce can determine appropriate taxes.

For rules in payroll policies that respect location overrides, Dayforce uses this setting to determine an employee’s work location when the calculating workers compensation deduction.

Dayforce also uses this setting to determine an employee’s work location when calculating eligibility for Long Service Leave (LSL) for organizations in Australia and New Zealand. If this setting is configured, Dayforce establishes the employee’s work location as the one populated in this field when determining LSL eligibility. Alternatively, if this setting is configured and the Virtual checkbox is selected, Dayforce ignores the employee’s work location override and uses their residential address (that is, their virtual location) when determining LSL eligibility.

Labor % Record a percentage amount by which to distribute the employee's pay across multiple work assignments.
Multi Jurisdiction Allocation %

To distribute the employee's pay across multiple jurisdictions, enter the corresponding percentage in the Multi Jurisdiction Allocation % field.

Note: Employee withholding tax and all state and local-level taxes adhere to the configured jurisdiction allocation. State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) tax is always associated with the primary allocation. In the general ledger, taxes are calculated based on labor percentage splits, and not multi-jurisdiction allocation percentages.

Telecommuter %

(US only) Enter a percentage that indicates the amount of time that a salaried employee partially works from home and at an office on a permanent basis. Dayforce uses the value in this field to tax the employee the percentage of the earnings for the work assignment, based on the employee's home address. For example, if you enter 40.00, the employee works 40 percent of the time from home, and 40 percent of the pay is taxed according to the employee's home address. You can use this option for primary and secondary work assignments.

If the Virtual checkbox is selected in the current primary work assignment, Dayforce disables the Telecommuter % field in the current primary work assignment and all secondary work assignments. Dayforce ignores any existing values for the Telecommuter % field in the current primary work assignment and all secondary work assignments, and Dayforce calculates taxes for all earnings from all work assignments, based on the employee's primary residence address. If you select an option in the Work Location Override drop-down list, Dayforce enables the override and applies the percentage in Telecommuter % for the primary work assignment. Dayforce doesn't support the Telecommuter % functionality when the earnings from a non-primary work assignment are subject to Multi-State Taxation Threshold (MSTT) or trailing taxation.

For more information, see “Telecommuter % Configuration for US Employees” in the Payroll Administrator Guide.

Convenience of Employee

(US only) For employees with a value in the Telecommuter % field, select this checkbox to enable taxation for states with Convenience of Employer/Employee (COE) regulations. Employees primarily assigned to work in one of these COE states have taxable wages for both their telecommuter location and the COE state.

For more information about COE taxation, see the Payroll Administrator Guide.
