You can drag a position to a new place in the hierarchy to move it under a different managing position quickly. However, drag-and-drop is difficult if your organization has many positions or if the new manager is located in a different area of the hierarchy. In this case, you can update the managing (parent) position in the position panel.
To change a managing position in the position panel:
- Go to Organization Designer > Positions.
- In the toolstrip, select the date that the new relationship starts.
- If you have the edit icon in the toolstrip, click it and select the option that provides you with access to editing managers.
- Click the position whose manager you want to change.
- In the position panel, go to the Information > Relationships tab.
- Click Change Parent.
- In the Parent Position drop-down list, select the new manager. The list shows positions that you have access to and that are eligible to be the new manager. It doesn’t include the position you’re updating and the ones under it in the hierarchy.
- Click Change.
- In the toolstrip, click Save.
After you save your changes, the position you updated moves to its new location in the hierarchy. If your organization requires approvals for this type of change, the position moves after the change has been approved.
