- Original Organization Designer user interface -
You can use the position import to add or update positions in your organization's position hierarchy in Organization Designer > Positions.
Role feature access: Organization Designer > Positions > Import
The position import respects position access authorizations. To use the import, you need Create permissions for either the manager view or the administrator view, depending on which positions you need to add. See Access Configuration for Position Management.
The import accepts an XML file. You can create the file in Excel and then save it as an XML file. For more information about how to create the import file, including information about the fields you need to include and sample XML, see the Dayforce Position Management Import Specification document.
To import the file:
- Go to Organization Designer > Positions.
- In the toolstrip, click the additional options menu, and then click Import.
- Locate the file and click Open.
- Review the details shown in the confirmation dialog box and click Import File.
- While the import runs, watch the status bar at the bottom of Organization Designer > Positions. You can click See Details at any time to see how many positions have been imported so far.
After the import finishes, you can click See Details in the status bar at the bottom of the screen to view more information. Depending on whether all your positions imported successfully, you see some of the following buttons:
- Refresh: Shows if all of the positions were imported successfully. Click Refresh to show the new positions in the hierarchy.
- Refresh and Show Problems: Shows if some positions weren't imported successfully. Click this button to show the successful positions in the hierarchy and open the Problems panel to view the errors.
- Download Import Summary: Shows if some positions weren’t imported successfully. Click to download a CSV file that shows all of the failed positions with details of the errors.
In Organization Designer > Positions, you can click the additional options menu and select Import History to open the Position Import History dialog box. This screen contains information about the imports that you have run, including the time, how many positions were successful and unsuccessful, and the status of the import. You can see information about your own position imports in this screen; you can’t see imports that were run by other users. You can also download the import summary in this screen to see details of the positions that had errors in an import.
