The hybrid model of Position Management allows employees to have position assignments and job work assignments at the same time. This model is useful if you want to roll out Position Management in phases where some employees move into positions while others stay in jobs. You can also use the hybrid model to track employees’ secondary roles without adding positions to your organization. For example, a hotel worker’s primary position is Receptionist, but they also work as a server. They can be assigned to the Receptionist position in Organization Designer > Positions and have a secondary job work assignment for their server role.

Employees can be assigned as position occupants in Organization Designer > Positions, or by using forms and workflows. You can also hire employees into job work assignments using workflow forms or by adding a job work assignment in the WorkWork Assignments screen in People. See Work > Work Assignments.

Employees with a position work assignment can’t report to someone in a job work assignment in the organization hierarchy.

Hybrid Position Management Forms

When you use a hybrid model, you must enable both the self-service forms that support Position Management, and the forms that support job work assignments.

For information on forms that support position assignments and forms that support job work assignments, see Position Management Self-Service Forms.

Effective Dating Logic for Work Assignments

If an employee moves from a primary position to a new primary job work assignment, Dayforce automatically ends the primary position and its primary and secondary work assignments. If the position has work assignments that are scheduled to begin after the start date of the new job work assignment, those are deleted.

If the employee has primary and secondary positions, the primary position and its work assignments are end dated before the new job work assignment starts. Secondary position assignments remain in place after the primary job work assignment starts.

If you add a primary job work assignment that starts before an existing primary position assignment, the job is automatically end dated before the position assignment starts.

Example 1: Add Job Work Assignment

An employee has a position assignment with primary and secondary position work assignments.

You add a primary job work assignment starting February 1. The primary position and its associated primary and secondary position work assignments are automatically end dated on January 31.

Example 2: Position Assignment and Future Position Assignment

An employee has a primary position assignment with primary and secondary position work assignments. They will move into a new primary position on February 1, with primary and secondary work assignments. The old position is end dated on January 31 along with its associated work assignments.

You add a primary job work assignment starting February 1. The earlier primary position assignment is still end dated on January 31, before the job assignment starts. The position that was scheduled to start on February 1 is deleted since it hadn’t started yet.

Example 3: Add Secondary Job Work Assignment

An employee has a primary job work assignment with a future position assignment that will start on March 1.

You add a secondary job work assignment starting February 1. It continues after the employee switches from the primary job to the primary position on March 1. If you want the secondary job work assignment to end when the position assignment starts, you have to end it.

Example 4: Add Primary and Secondary Job Work Assignments

An employee has a primary job work assignment. A new position assignment and position work assignment will start on March 1.

You add primary and secondary job work assignments starting February 1. The existing primary job work assignment is end dated on January 31. The new primary job work assignment ends after one month at the end of February so that the primary position can start on March 1. The secondary job work assignment continues together with the primary position.

Example 5: Add Primary and Secondary Position Assignments

An employee has primary and secondary job work assignments.

You add a primary position with primary and secondary position work assignments to start on February 1. The primary job work assignment is end dated on January 31. The secondary job work assignment continues together with the new position assignment. If you want the secondary job to finish when the new position starts, you need to end it.
