Job Work Assignment Settings List

You can configure the following settings for job work assignments. Read-only fields for pay grade can also be shown. For more information about pay grades, see Pay Grade Information.

If your organization uses Position Management, you might not be able to edit all of the fields. If a work assignment isn't connected to a position, you can update all of the fields as long as the effective start and end dates are before Position Management was enabled. If a work assignment is connected to a position, you can update only fields that aren't related to the position details. For information on position assignments, see View and Update Position Assignments.

Required settings are marked with an asterisk in the user interface.

Job work assignment settings

Setting

Description

Job Assignment

The job assignment that you want to assign to the employee.

Location

The location at which the employee works in this job assignment.

Primary

The indication that this work assignment is the employee's primary work assignment (that is, their default work assignment for things like scheduling). Employees can have only one effective primary work assignment. In other words, to mark the work assignment as primary, you must first end date the employee's previous primary work assignment.

Effective From

The earliest date the employee can work at this assignment.

Effective To

The specific date the assignment ends (for example, a temporary work assignment). The employee can’t work this assignment after the end date passes.

Reason

The reason you’re adding or editing the work assignment. For example, select Promotion to indicate that the employee was promoted to this new job assignment.

Full Time Equivalent

A value between 0.00 and 1.00 that indicates the workload associated with this assignment. Entering 1.00 indicates that this work assignment represents one full-time worker.

Position Term

The option that represents the position term associated with the assignment. For example, you could use this setting to specify that the work assignment is temporary.

Business Title

A title that Dayforce shows in place of the job assignment title.

Note: Business title is only displayed if the Enable Business Title client property is enabled in the Employee section of the Properties tab in System Admin > Client Properties.

Employment Indicator

The type of work associated with this assignment, such as seasonal or contractor.

End Job Secondary Work Assignments

When selected, Dayforce end-dates all secondary work assignments when you add a new primary work assignment today or in the future. This setting is useful, for example, if an employee takes up a new position in a store far from where their secondary work assignments are located. Their secondary assignments can be ended so they aren't eligible for shift scheduling.

Dayforce end dates all active secondary work assignments the day before the new primary work assignment begins. If a secondary work assignment starts on the same date as the new primary work assignment, it isn't ended. Dayforce doesn't remove any historical work assignments if you added the new primary work assignment in the past.

KldB Job Classification (Germany only) The KldB job classification code for this job.

Virtual

An indication that the employee works remotely. Dayforce designates the employee's primary residence as their work address and applies taxation requirements based on the residential address (or work location, if applicable). If you select this checkbox, the Telecommuter % field isn't available.

Dayforce also uses this checkbox to determine if an employee is virtual when calculating eligibility for Long Service Leave (LSL). Because LSL requirements are different in many states and territories, their location might affect their eligibility.

Note: For more information on using the Virtual checkbox for employees in Canadian pay groups, see Virtual Checkbox for Canadian Employees.

Work Location Override

The location the employee physically works at that’s different from the location assigned to them. Dayforce uses this information to determine appropriate taxes.

For rules in payroll policies that respect location overrides, Dayforce uses this setting to determine an employee’s work location when calculating workers compensation deduction.

(Australia and New Zealand only) Dayforce also uses this setting to determine an employee’s work location when calculating eligibility for Long Service Leave (LSL) for organizations in Australia and New Zealand. If this setting is configured, Dayforce establishes the employee’s work location based on this field when determining LSL eligibility. Alternatively, if this setting is configured and the Virtual checkbox is selected, Dayforce ignores the employee’s work location override and uses their residential address (that is, their virtual location) when determining LSL eligibility.

Note: This field is only enabled for pay groups of native payroll countries.

Labor %

The percentage value Dayforce uses to distribute the employee's pay across multiple work assignments.

Multi Jurisdiction Allocation %

The percentage value Dayforce uses to distribute the employee's pay across multiple jurisdictions.

Note: Employee withholding tax and all state and local-level taxes adhere to the configured jurisdiction allocation. State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) tax is always associated with the primary allocation. In the general ledger, taxes are calculated based on labor percentage splits, and not multi-jurisdiction allocation percentages.

Telecommuter %

(US only) A percentage for the amount of time that a salaried employee partially works from home and at an office on a permanent basis. Dayforce uses the value in this field to tax the percentage of the employee's earnings for the work assignment, based on their home address. For example, if you enter 40.00, the employee works 40 percent of the time from home, and 40 percent of the pay is taxed according to their home address. You can use this option for primary and secondary work assignments.

If the Virtual checkbox is selected in the current primary work assignment, Dayforce disables the Telecommuter % field and ignores any values in that field for the current primary work assignment and all secondary work assignments. Dayforce calculates taxes for all earnings from all work assignments, based on the employee's primary residence. If you select an option in the Work Location Override drop-down list, Dayforce enables the override and applies the percentage in Telecommuter % for the primary work assignment. Dayforce doesn't support the Telecommuter % functionality when the earnings from a non-primary work assignment are subject to Multi-State Taxation Threshold (MSTT) or trailing taxation.

For more information, see Telecommuter % Configuration for US Employees in the Payroll Administrator Guide.

Convenience of Employee

(US only) An indication for employees with a value in the Telecommuter % field to enable taxation for states with Convenience of Employer/Employee (COE) regulations. Employees primarily assigned to work in one of these COE states have taxable wages for both their telecommuter location and the COE state.

For more information about COE taxation, see the Payroll Administrator Guide.

Ledger Code

The ledger code associated with the work assignment.

Legal Entity The organization name and address that is associated with the selected job assignment.
Customer Funding Override

The customer funding identifier name when a funding bank account for a legal entity was overridden. Shows N/A when there is no override value.

For more information, see Configure Multiple Bank Accounts Per Legal Entity in the Payroll Administrator Guide.

Tax Location The employee address associated with the payroll work location.

Rate

The employee's pay rate.

Rate Level

A parameter that specifies the employee's level and step value if your organization uses job step rates.

Rank

A number for the work assignment's rank. The rank defines where it’s shown in lists and reports in Dayforce.

Guaranteed Amount

A guaranteed amount defines how much the employee is guaranteed to earn working the job, regardless of the duration of the shift. It only impacts pay if the appropriate pay rules are configured in Dayforce.

Tip Type Group

The tip type group if an employee receives tips.
