Irish employees need a Personal Public Service (PPS) number (sometimes referred to as a PPSN) to register with the Revenue Commissioners for taxation purposes. The PPSN is always seven numbers followed by either one or two letters. The PPSN is similar to other national ID numbers (for example, the National Insurance Number in the United Kingdom or the Social Insurance Number in Canada).
To view and update an employee’s PPSN:
- Go to People, open the employee profile, and click Personal > Confidential Information.
- In the Identification section, look at the Identification Number column.
For more information about identification numbers, see Identification in the HR Administration Guide.
