Canadian employers must report any separation payments paid to their employees in Block 17 (A, B, and C) of the Record of Employment (ROE) form. Separation payments are made to terminated employees, and are payments or benefits other than the regular pay.
In a tax compliance rule, you can map a payroll earning to Block 17A, Block 17B, or Block 17C so that the ROE forms are automatically filled with the correct earning amounts when these forms are generated in Dayforce. For Block 17C, you can also assign a default reason.
Note: In the Payroll Properties tab in Pay Setup > Pay Group, you can set a default reason for Block 17A in ROE forms generated for employees in a specific pay group.
To set up a custom tax compliance rule to map Block 17 to an earning:
- Go to the Tax Compliance Rules tab in Payroll Setup > Earnings and Deductions.
- Select Earning in the sidebar, and click Add to create a new tax compliance rule for an earning.
- Select Canada.
- In the Canada sub-tab, in the ROE section, select the Block 17 payment type you want to map. For Block 17C, you can also select a default reason.
- Click Save.
- In the Earnings tab, assign this new rule to an earning.
