Configure Superannuation for Employees Under 18 Years Old

You can configure the AUS Superannuation rule to align with legislation by incorporating exceptions to the mandatory Employer Superannuation Guarantee Contribution (SGC) for employees under 18 years working less than 30 hours per week. This grants employers the flexibility to start paying employees the SGC as soon as they exceed 30 hours per week.

Configuring Dayforce for superannuation of employees under 18 years old working less than 30 hours a week requires you to do the following:

  • Enable the Eligible Superannuation Earnings - Under 18 setting in Payroll Setup > Groupings to make the earnings group available.
  • Create two Apply AUS Superannuation rules with qualifiers:
    • Rule 1: Employees under 18
    • Rule 2: Employees over 18

To configure earning groupings for employees under 18 years working under 30 hours per week:

  1. Go to Payroll Setup > Groupings and click the Earning Groupings tab and create the earning grouping applicable to the audience.
  2. Select the Superannuation Under 18 Earnings checkbox.
  3. Go to Payroll Setup > Payroll Policies
  4. Create rule 1: Employees under 18:
    1. Expand Rules and in the Type drop-down list, select Apply AUS Superannuation Rule.
    2. In the Ineligible deduction drop-down list, select the Superannuation Exemption option.
    3. In the Superannuation Earning Groupings drop-down list, select the earning grouping that applies. This step allows Dayforce to calculate the hours worked based on the earnings in the earning grouping. For example, the AU Gross Earnings option.
    4. In the Number of Units field, enter 30 as the number to use in conjunction with the base unit and look up period.
    5. In the Base Units drop-down list, select the Hours option.
    6. In the Look up Period drop-down list, select Week.Apply AUS Superannuation Rule with Suerannuation Earning Grouping and other settings selected
    7. Expand Qualifiers and do the following:
      1. In the Type drop-down list, select the Employee Qualifier option.
      2. In the Max Age field, enter 17 as the maximum age for superannuation under 18.Apply AUS Superannuation Rule with the Employee Qualifier selected and Max Age as 17
  5. Create rule 2: Employees over 18.
    1. In the Type drop-down list, select Apply AUS Superannuation Rule.
    2. Expand Qualifiers and do the following:
      1. In the Type drop-down list, select Employee Qualifier.
      2. In the Min Age field, enter 18 as the minimum age for superannuation under 18.
