You can configure Dayforce to enable future time entries for specific pay periods. When configured, users with access can add, edit, or delete worked time in timesheets for any date in the pay period, even if it’s in the future.
Although available for a wide variety of situations, this is often performed for pay periods when employees and managers are away, such as over a holiday break, but should still be paid. By allowing future time entries, users with access can create pay details ahead of time.
If employees clock in and out for work on dates that have future time entries, Dayforce removes any future time entries that fall within the unpaired time entry threshold of a clock-in. The unpaired threshold is a number of hours that Dayforce waits after a clock-in for a corresponding clock-out. Typically, it’s set beyond the number of hours an employee could work in a single shift.
Note: The unpaired threshold has already been set as part of configuring Dayforce. For more information, contact your system administrator.
Dayforce replaces future time entries with any actual time entries that occur within the unpaired threshold. For example, on Tuesday, future time entries were created to record a worked shift on Friday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Dayforce is configured with an unpaired time entry threshold of 14 hours. On Friday, the employee clocks in at 9:00 AM. When the employee clocks in, Dayforce deletes any time entries and worked shifts recorded as a future time entry that fall within 14 hours (the unpaired time entry threshold) of 9:00 AM (the time of the clock-in). As a result, Dayforce removes the future time entries of the shift recorded from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This shift with future time entries is replaced by the actual clock entry times so that the shift accurately reflects when the employee worked.
If Dayforce is configured to enable future time entries, it shows the Future Time Entries Enabled checkbox at the top of the checklist. Whether Dayforce shows this checkbox depends on how the application is configured and what access is granted to your user role. For more information, contact your system administrator.
To enable future time entries for the dates in the selected pay period for the selected pay group, select the Future Time Entries Enabled checkbox:
In this example, future time is enabled for employees in the UK - Monthly pay group for the pay period that runs from March 1 to March 31.
When future time entries are enabled for a pay group, Dayforce shows the future time entries enabled icon () in the Pay Groups list next to the applicable pay groups, as shown in the following screenshot:
