Controlled Progression

Before You Begin: This feature is only available for the new Dayforce experience. See Configure New Onboarding.

Use controlled progression to require new hires to complete their forms and tasks in a particular order. You can order sections, and the forms and tasks within a section. Controlled progression applies separately to preboarding essentials and onboarding essentials; that is, sections without the Include in preboarding essentials checkbox aren't prerequisites for sections marked with the checkbox even if they are ordered as such.

To set up controlled progression for an onboarding policy:

  1. Go to Onboarding Setup > Onboarding Policy.
  2. Select the policy you want to work with from the sidebar. You can only choose from unpublished policies.
  3. In the My Onboarding tab, select Onboarding Forms. Move the sections into the order that you want employees to complete their forms. You can move sections up or down in relation to the other sections by clicking the up or down arrow icons.
  4. In the My Onboarding tab, select Employee Checklist. Move the sections into the order that you want employees to complete their tasks.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Go to the Properties tab of the policy. In the Controlled Progression field, select each item that you want to use controlled progression for: preboarding forms, onboarding forms, preboarding employee checklists, and onboarding employee checklists. If you don't select an item, onboarding employees will be able to complete the forms or tasks in any order for that item.
