Guides are existing employees who act as a mentor or another point of contact who can help new employees through the onboarding process. If necessary, you can assign more than one guide to a new employee.
Before You Begin: New employees see their guides only if the Meet Your Guide section is added to their assigned onboarding policy. See Add the Meet Your Guide Section to an Onboarding Policy.
The following are the most common types of guides:
- An orientation partner who is currently or was previously in the new employee’s role who can speak from experience, answer questions about the job or company, introduce them to people, show them around, and make them feel welcome.
- A first-day contact who is there to show them around and help answer questions with limited ongoing responsibility.
- A mentor who serves as an orientation partner at the start of employment and continues to assist in the development of the new employee’s career goals and training on an ongoing basis.
Assign Guides
To assign a guide to an onboarding employee:
- Go to Onboarding > Onboarding Employees.
- Select the new employee. Click the new employee's row, but not on their name or picture.
- Complete one of the following actions:
- Click Assign Guide in the toolstrip.
- Click Assign Guide in the Guide(s) column.
- Find the employee you want to assign as a guide:
- To assign one of your direct reports, click the Direct Reports tab.
- To search for an employee, use the Search tab.
- Select the checkbox next to the employees you want to assign as guides.
- Click Save.
When you assign a guide, Dayforce automatically notifies the guide to let them know that they have a new contact.

To see the list of guides assigned to an employee, open that employee's slide-out panel in Onboarding > Onboarding Employees. The list of their guides appears in the upper left.
Remove Guides
To remove a guide from an employee:
- Go to Onboarding > Onboarding Employees.
- Select the employee. Click the new employee's row, but not on their name or picture.
- Click Assign Guide in the toolstrip.
- Find the employee you want to unassign as a guide. Use the search field if you need to.
- Clear the checkbox next to that employee.
- Click Save.
