Configure Course Properties

You can configure the properties for your organization’s courses in Learning Setup > Courses and Learning Plans > Courses, in the Properties tab. All of the properties are described in the table below.

To configure the properties for a course,

  1. Go to Learning Setup > Courses and Learning Plans.
  2. In the Courses tab, open the course that you want to configure the properties for.
  3. In the Properties tab for the course, configure the settings as needed.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Details (General Settings)

Settings in the Details subtab
Setting Purpose
Code Specifies the reference code for the course.
Title Specifies the title of the course.
Language Specifies the language that the course is offered in.
Category Specifies the category for the course, which is used to group the course with other, similar courses.
Short description Gives a summary of the course, which is shown in the header of the course page.
Description Gives a full description of the course.
Thumbnail Sets the thumbnail image for the course, which is shown in all course previews (tiles, lists, and images).
Header layout Sets the header layout for the course.
Completion rules Specifies the point at which the course is considered complete, either after the learner has completed one session or after they’ve completed a percentage of the sessions in which they’re enrolled.
Average time Specifies the average amount of time that it takes users to complete the course.

Course Additional Fields (General Settings)

The Course additional fields subtab shows the list of custom fields that were configured for your organization in Learning Setup > Course and Learning Plans in the Courses > Additional Fields tab. Fill out the fields, as needed. If you leave an additional field blank, it’s not shown for the course in the course catalog.

Enrollment Options (General Settings)

Settings in the Enrollment Options tab
Setting Purpose
Self-Unenrollment Specifies whether learners can unenroll themselves from the course and whether learners can unenroll from courses that they’ve already completed.
Session self -unenrollment Specifies whether learners can unenroll themselves from the course sessions and whether they can change from one session to another.
Enrollment link Specifies whether you want learners to be shown a link that they can click to enroll in the course automatically.
Automatic unenrollment Specifies whether deactivated and expired users are automatically unenrolled from ongoing and future sessions.
Quick enrollment Specifies whether you want to allow learners to skip the course details page and directly access the course material.

Time Options (General Settings)

Setting Purpose
Validity period Specifies whether you want learners to have access to the course only for a limited time period. You can configure the validity period with a start date, or end date, or both.
Days of validity Specifies whether learners can access the course for only a limited number of days after the end of the last session in which they’re enrolled. Use the fields to configure the days of validity, as needed.
Soft deadline

Specifies whether a soft deadline is used for the course. A soft deadline allows users to access the course after their enrollment, or the course end date has passed.

Note: If you select the Allow users to enter an E-Learning course even if the enrollment validity or course end date is expired checkbox, then this course won’t be locked after the course enrollment deadline is reached. Instead, employees still have access to the course under Learning > Courses.

Player (General Settings)

Setting Purpose
Starting view

Specifies whether learners see the course player right away or if they see an overview page for the course first.

Player background image Specifies whether a custom background image is shown in the course player.
Focus mode Specifies whether a custom focus mode is used.
Syllabus visibility Specifies whether a syllabus is shown for the course.
Course autoplay Specifies whether course content plays automatically.
Theater mode navigation Specifies whether you want to hide or show custom internal navigation buttons for course content played in the theater mode.
Appearance Specifies whether light mode or dark mode is used for the course player.

Navigation (General Settings)

Settings in the Certificates tab
Setting Purpose
Navigation policy Specifies how the learner navigates the course, and at which points training material needs to be completed.
Maximum number of attempts Specifies the number of times that the learner can attempt to complete the course. When the field is blank, users have unlimited attempts.

Certificates Templates (General Settings)

Setting Purpose
Default certificate template Specifies whether a default template is used when awarding a certificate for course completion. See Certificate Templates for Course Certificates.
Additional certificate templates Specifies whether additional templates are available when awarding certificates to specific groups or branches.

Catalog Options (Advanced Settings)

Settings in the Catalog options subtab
Setting Purpose
Course visibility in catalogs Specifies whether the course is shown in internal or external catalogs, or only to enrolled learners.
Course self-enrollment Specifies whether learners can self-enroll for the course or not. You can also make self-enrollment available for only a specific time period.
Course enrollment policy Specifies whether learners can self-enroll freely or if they need an administrator’s assistance.
Maximum enrollment quota Specifies the maximum number of learners who can enroll in the course. When enrollments exceed the configured number, they’re added to the waiting list if it’s enabled.
Waiting list Enables the waiting list and specifies whether learners are enrolled automatically when spaces open up for the course.
Demo materials Lets you upload a sample of the training material used for the course.

Equivalencies (Advanced Settings)

Setting Purpose
Course equivalencies Lets you specify equivalent courses that can be substituted for this course.

Score & Credits (Advanced Settings)

Settings in the Score & Credits tab
Setting Purpose
Course initial score calculation Specifies whether Dayforce generates an initial score.
Course final score calculation (bookmark) Specifies how the course is scored when users complete it.
Credits (CEUs) Specifies the number of credits assigned to the course, if any.

Rating and Sharing (Advanced Settings)

Setting Purpose
Rating Specifies whether learners can rate courses.
Social sharing Specifies whether learners can share courses on social media and, if so, which platforms are supported.
