Work > Default Labor

In the Work > Default Labor screen in People, you can configure and assign the default labor metrics that Dayforce applies to employees’ worked time, such as specifying what project or docket their worked time should be charged against, by default:

Example of the Work > Default Labor screen in People.

An employee’s default labor is applied by default and can be overridden in several cases.

Changes that can override an employee’s default labor
Change That Affects Default Labor Description
Details of scheduled shifts Dayforce respects any details specified by a scheduled shift that an employee works. For example, the worked time is charged against the job assignment the employee was scheduled to work, even if this is different from the employee’s default labor job assignment. It also respects any pay code assigned to the scheduled shift. For example, if the employee was scheduled to a training shift by selecting the Train pay code for the shift, when the employee works the shift, the Train pay code is applied to the worked time, even if this is different from the employee’s default labor pay code.
Transfers Any transfers, either done by the employee during the shift at a clock, or transfers recorded in their timesheet, override the employee’s default labor. For example, an employee’s default labor specifies that their hours are recorded against the Q3 Inventory project, but during their shift the employee recorded a project transfer at 1:00 PM. In this case, the employee’s worked time from 1:00 PM to the end of the shift are charged against the project specified in the transfer and not their default labor.
Shift rotation allocations

When employees work scheduled shifts that are based on shift rotations, Dayforce respects any labor metrics that are specified in the rotation’s definition. Shift rotations can be assigned sets of labor metrics that dictate what job assignment, project, docket, or pay code employees are scheduled to work when their schedules are created from the shift rotation. If employees work schedules that are created from shift rotations that are assigned labor metrics, these labor metrics override the employees’ default labor.
