Statements > State Wage Allocation Statements

In the Statements > State Wage Allocation Statements screen in People, you can review and print State Wage Allocation statements that have been generated (quarterly) for you, if applicable. These statements provide a better understanding of taxable wages and taxes based on where you worked and traveled during the year, including employees who don’t travel, but just move from one state to another during the year.

Before You Begin: Access to State Wage Allocation statements is controlled in part by Payroll Setup > Multi-State Tax Thresholds role feature, which is added to your instance by a Support user. When it's added to an instance, you must add the Payroll Setup > Multi-State Tax Thresholds subfeature to a user role.

These statements are generated quarterly by a background job:

When you select a statement in the list, Dayforce loads a report that itemizes the YTD days and wages that have been reported or withheld for each state.

State Wage Allocation report output.

The first section of the report indicates the following data for each state:

  • State: Includes the primary states where you worked and the states you traveled to.
  • Filing Statuses: Lists the filing status for each state as a footnote.
  • Exempt/Allow: Indicates the exemptions or allowances for each state as a footnote.
  • YTD Taxable Wages: Indicates the state taxable wages (limited).
  • YTD Taxes: Indicates the state taxes withheld.

The second section of the report indicates each individual payment the employee has received so far (year-to-date) where any earning is classified as a lookback earning. Each row indicates the Pay Period, Earning Name, Amount, and State Allocation.

The - Days shown applies to all entities (that is, no legal entity context), whereas the wage or tax shown is by legal entity. For a legal entity, the report header displays the same company and address as shown on the earning statement.

Note: You can modify the footnotes shown on the report by configuring this option in the State Wage Allocation Statement in Payroll Setup > Report Output in the Reports tab.
