The Compensation Change form includes settings that are divided into the following sections:
- Compensation
- Pay Grade
- Other Pay Rates
The fields in the Pay Grade section each have their own access authorization. Users also need permissions for the Pay Grade access authorization to update the fields in that section.
Setting | Description |

Compensation (Section): This section displays settings related to the employee's compensation. You can update the employee's base rate or salary using the Base Rate or Annual Salary fields. | |
Effective Date | The date that you want the change to be effective. |
Reason | The reason you are submitting a compensation change for the employee. |
Pay Type |
The payment type for the employee. For example, salaried or hourly. Pay types are configured in HR Admin > Pay Type. |
Pay Class |
The employee's category of employment such as part-time or full-time. Pay classes are configured in HR Admin > Pay Class. |
Normal Weekly Hours |
The hours that an employee typically works each week. |
Semi Monthly Hours (Top) | The default hours for the respective first (top) and second (bottom) halves of the month. |

Original Base Rate | The employee's hourly rate before the change. |
Original Annual Salary | The employee's annual salary before the change. |
Base Rate | For hourly employees, enter the new rate here. For salary employees, this field displays the hourly rate calculated using their annual salary and the normal weekly hours. |
Annual Salary | For salary employees, enter the new annual salary amount here. For hourly employees, this field displays the annual salary calculated using their hourly rate and the normal weekly hours. |
Pay Grade (Section): Displays settings related to the employee's current employment status record in the Employment Status tab of the Employment > Employment Settings screen in People. | |
Pay Grade | The name of the pay grade associated with the employee's current primary work assignment. Note that this field always displays the employee's current pay grade, even if you are viewing a past form submission. |
Minimum | The lowest amount someone working a job assignment assigned the pay grade should earn. |
Mid | The automatically calculated midpoint between the minimum and maximum rates of the pay grade. |
Maximum | The highest amount someone working a job assignment assigned the pay grade should earn. |
Control | The amount that most employees earn (also known as the market rate). Not necessarily the midpoint between the minimum and maximum, it represents the ideal amount that employees working job assignments with the pay grade should earn. |
Compa-Ratio | The percentage calculated as the employee’s pay amount in relation to the pay grade control point. A ratio of 100% means the employee is paid at the control point. |
Other Pay Rates (Section): This section contains fields that you can use to update the employee's average daily hours and other pay rates including vacation and overtime rates. | |
Average Daily Hours |
The average number of hours that the employee works daily. This value can be used in overtime calculations. |
Vacation Rate |
The hourly rate that the employee is paid while on vacation. |
Overtime Rate |
The hourly rate that the employee is paid when working overtime. |
Alternate Rate |
The alternate hourly rate for the employee. Typically, the alternate rate is applied to part-time employees who earn a higher pay rate before working beyond an amount of weekly hours. |
