Ethnicity (US)

For employees in the United States, Dayforce tracks employee ethnicity to support Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reporting on self-identification and sight-identification of employees.

Before You Begin: The information in this topic is for employees in US pay groups. For Singapore employees, see Ethnicity (Singapore).

Access and configuration:

  • Role feature access: Application Container > People > Employee Profile > Personal > Confidential Information > Ethnicity
  • Role authorization access: Employee Profile - Confidential Information - Ethnicity (Can Read, Can Write)

You can view and manage ethnicity information in the Ethnicity section of the Personal > Confidential Information screen in People. For each ethnicity record, the Identification Type column indicates whether the record is based on self-identification by the employee or sight identification by the employer, also called visual identification.

Ethnicity section example.

Ethnicity records that are based on self-identification can’t be added directly in the Ethnicity section. They're also read-only and can’t be deleted.

Self-identified records can be added to Dayforce through only the following methods:

  • Employees can complete the Confidential Information form in self-service.
  • In the Recruiting module of Dayforce, the Equal Employment Opportunity section can be added to job applications. See Equal Employment Opportunity Questionnaire in the Recruiting Guide.
  • If your organization uses an external method to collect this information, you can add it to Dayforce using the HR Import. Download the Dayforce Interface Specifications ZIP file and see the section “USConfidentialInformation” in the HR Import Specification document.

You can add ethnicity records that are based on sight identification directly in the Ethnicity screen of People. These records show Sight Identified in the Identification Type column. This column isn’t editable. See Add Sight-Identified Ethnicity (US).

Dayforce also shows sight-identification records that were added through other methods. You can edit and delete these records if needed. Other methods for recording ethnicity based on sight identification are as follows:

  • Administrators can submit the EEO Sight Identification Form in self-service. See EEO Sight Identification Form in the Dayforce Implementation Guide.
  • Your organization can add this information to Dayforce through the HR Import. Download the Dayforce Interface Specifications ZIP file and see the section “USConfidentialInformation” in the HR Import Specification document.
