Direct Management Assignments in the Edit Wizard

Before You Begin: The ability to assign managers in the Edit wizard is controlled by the Management Assignment access authorization in the Authorizations tab of System Admin > Roles. In addition, the employees available to select in the Direct Manager drop-down list of the Assign Values step in the wizard is controlled by the existing Restrict Management Assignments feature under Application Container > People > Employee Profile > Work > Management Assignments > Managers in the Features tab of System Admin > Roles.

Note: For steps on how to edit employees using the Edit wizard, see Edit Employees.

You can make direct manager updates in the Edit wizard, which is available in the People List screen of People. The Select Fields step of the wizard shows the Direct Manager checkbox under Miscellaneous. When you select the Direct Manager checkbox and click Next, the Assign Values step of the wizard shows the following required settings:

  • Effective From: Field for entering the date that the management assignment starts.
  • Direct Manager: Drop-down list for selecting the direct manager who assigned to the employees.

If Dayforce is configured to allow employees to have more than one manager, the following options are shown next to the Direct Manager drop-down list:

  • Add to current manager(s): The manager is added to the employee’s existing list of managers. An effective end date isn’t assigned to the existing managers.
  • Replace current manager(s): An effective end date is assigned to the employee’s existing managers, and the employee is managed only by the newly selected manager.

Note: The ability for employees to have more than one manager is enabled by the Employees reporting to multiple managers checkbox in the Employee section of the Properties tab in System Admin > Client Properties.

When you click Next, the Preview step of the wizard shows the employee’s current direct manager in the Current column, and the newly selected manager in the New column. If the employee’s current manager is derived by their work location or job assignment rather than directly assigned, the Current column isn’t populated.

Moreover, if Dayforce is configured to allow employees to have multiple managers, and the Add to current manager(s) option was selected in the Assign Values step of the wizard, the New column shows Addition to Current instead.
