Create Pay Zones

You can create pay zones and maintain existing pay zones for your organization in HR Admin > Pay Structure, in the Pay Zones tab. Dayforce isn’t preconfigured with pay zones, so you need to create them.

The following screenshot shows an example of the Pay Zones tab after pay zones have been added:

At a minimum, you must assign a country to a pay zone. You can also assign additional criteria to the pay zone to make it more specific, including province/state, city, or ZIP/postal code.

The geographic area that you configure for each pay zone must be unique. For example, you can’t create two active pay zones for Canada without specifying additional criteria like province.

To create a pay zone:

  1. Go to HR Admin > Pay Structure and click the Pay Zones tab.
  2. Click Add. A slide-out panel opens for adding the details of the pay zone.
  3. Complete the fields. See Pay Zone Settings.
  4. Click Save.

Differential Percentage

The default percentage differential for the pay zone. The differential percentage is used to scale the employee's base pay grade up or down.

For example, if employees should be paid 105% of the pay grade rate, enter 105. If employees should be paid 95% of the pay grade rate, enter 95. The value entered can have up to two decimal places.

Country The country that the pay zone is for.
Additional Criteria

Applies the pay zone to one of the following more specific geographic areas in the specified country. You can select one or more of the following options:

  • Zip/Postal Code: You can enter code values in the Zip/Postal Code field that is shown after you select this option. Enter an individual code or add an asterisk at the end of at least three digits to define a wildcard.
  • For example, enter 453* to include all ZIP Codes that start with 453, instead of having to add a separate line for each ZIP Code. Or, if your organization wants to apply a 110% differential for employees working in two different ZIP Codes in the United States, add a separate ZIP Code wildcard for each area as follows:
  • Example showing two zip code wildcard values.
  • State/Province: You can select one or more states/provinces that the pay zone applies to.
  • City: You can select one or more cities that the pay zone applies to. City values are pulled from the country’s cities in System Admin > Geo Locations.

For example, your organization might want to apply a 110% differential for employees working in New York City and San Francisco. In this case, you can select both of those cities after selecting State/Province.

Reference Code The reference code of the pay zone. Reference codes are used to export data to other applications. These codes must be unique and must not contain special characters.
Assigned Employees
