Automated Direct Manager Reassignment

Before You Begin: Applicable when manager derivation configuration exclusively uses Direct Manager assignment.

Client properties: Automatically reassign employee to next-level manager on direct manager termination

When manager derivation is based on direct manager assignment, if a manager is terminated, deleted, or their employment ends, administrators need to manually assign a new manager to the affected employees.

For example, Amanda’s direct manager is Griffin, and Griffin’s direct manager is Trevor. If Griffin’s employment is terminated, Amanda would be left without a direct manager, and an administrator would need to reassign one manually.

When the Automatically reassign employee to next-level manager on direct manager termination client property is enabled, Dayforce automatically reassigns the employee’s manager to the terminated manager’s manager.

For example, Amanda’s direct manager is Griffin, and Griffin’s direct manager is Trevor. If Griffin’s employment is terminated, Trevor becomes Amanda’s new direct manager automatically.

Important considerations:

  • Enabling the Automatically reassign employee to next-level manager on direct manager termination client property is recommended only for organizations that use direct manager derivation exclusively.
  • When the Automatically reassign employee to next-level manager on direct manager termination client property is enabled, direct management continues to take precedence over derived by org management.
  • For example, Amanda’s primary work assignment is at the Bayview location, where the org manager is Stephanie.
  • Amanda’s direct manager is Griffin, and Griffin’s direct manager is Trevor.
  • If Griffin is terminated, Dayforce assigns Trevor as Amanda’s manager, not Stephanie.
  • When a manager is terminated, Dayforce assigns the next-level manager effective from the terminated manager’s termination date onward.
  • Dayforce doesn’t validate whether the next-level manager is also scheduled for termination. This may result in employees being temporarily managed by a terminated manager.

Important: In hybrid configurations (Direct + Org or Position Management), this behavior might produce unexpected or inaccurate results.
