When you make edits in the Employment Status tab of the Employment > Employment Settings screen in People, and the most recent termination record is followed by an active record, Dayforce automatically updates the Most Recent Hire Date field in the Key Information tab of this screen to match the start date of the active record.
To disable this behavior, select the Disable auto update of Most Recent Hire date checkbox in the General section of the Properties tab of System Admin > Client Properties.
