Add Positions

- New Organization Designer user interface -

To add headcount in Dayforce, you create new positions in the hierarchy.

The instructions below are for adding positions one at a time. You can use the position import to add multiple positions. See Import Positions. If you’re switching from job-based work assignments to positions, you can generate a position hierarchy based on your existing organization configuration in Dayforce to use for the import. See Generate Position Hierarchy Data.

Before You Begin: Depending on your organization’s configuration, you might need to be given access to add positions. If you don’t see the + icon below positions or the additional options menu on position cards, contact your Dayforce administrator.

To add a position:

  1. Go to Organization Designer > Positions.
  2. If you have the edit icon in the toolstrip, click it and select the option that provides you with access to adding positions.
  3. In the as of date field, enter the date that this position becomes effective.
  4. Specify where the new position fits into the hierarchy by doing one of the following:
    • Select the managing position and then click +.
    • Select the managing position and then click the additional options menu and select Add Position.
    • If it’s the first position in the hierarchy, click the add icon.
  5. Enter the position name.
  6. Enter a position number, reference code, ledger code, and full-time equivalent. Also enter an optional description for the position. See Position Settings.
  7. If the position’s management relationship ends on a specific date, enter the end date in the Effective To field under Relationships.
  8. Select a job assignment and business unit for the position.
  9. Click Add Location and then select a location for the position. If the job assignment has only one location, the location field is filled in automatically and you can skip this step.
  10. Click Update to add the location information.
  11. Optionally, click Add Location again to add another location. You can add more than one location as long as they don’t have overlapping effective dates.
  12. Click save in the toolstrip.
