Add Employment Types

Before You Begin: Make sure that you are familiar with the Employment Type tab in the Employment > Employment Settings screen in People. See Employment Type.

Add an Employment Type (US)

To add an employment type record for a US employee:

  1. Go to People, open the employee profile, and click Employment > Employment Settings.
  2. Click the Employment Type tab and then click Add.
  3. In the Employment Type drop-down list, select Contractor or Pensioner.
  4. Enter the effective dates.
  5. For contractor employment types only, do the following, if applicable:
    • Enter a value in the Tax Payer ID field.
    • In the DBA Name field, enter a Doing Business As name if the company name is different from the owner's name or from the legal name of the partnership.
    • Select the Gaming Profits Distributions checkbox.
  6. Click Save.

Add an Employment Type (UK)

You would create an employment type for a UK employee in the following situations:

  • When you are configuring a contractor for IR35.
  • When you are configuring a pensioner's pension type.

To add an employment type record for a UK employee:

  1. Go to People, open the employee profile, and click Employment > Employment Settings.
  2. Click the Employment Type tab and then click Add.
  3. In the Employment Type drop-down list, select Contractor or Pensioner.
  4. Enter the effective dates.
  5. Do one of the following steps, depending on which type of employment you selected:
    • For contractor employment types, if applicable, select the IR35 checkbox. See Configure Contract Employees for IR35 in the Payroll Administrator Guide.
    • For pensioner employment types, if applicable, select the employee's pension scheme in the Pension Type drop-down list:
      • Occupational Pensioner
      • Bereaved spouse / Civil Partner
      • Non Individual
  6. Click Save.

Add an Employment Type (AU)

You would create an employment type to store the ABN and Trading Name for the reporting of Australian contractors under the Voluntary Agreement Income (VOL) income stream type.

Note: For contractors who are under Voluntary Agreement for PAYG withholding or receive only superannuation payments, ABN is required when reporting to ATO using STP.

To add an employment type record for an AU employee:

  1. Go to People, open the employee profile, and click Employment > Employment Settings.
  2. Click the Employment Type tab and then click Add.
  3. In the Employment Type drop-down list, select Contractor.
  4. Enter the effective dates.
  5. For contractor employment types only, do the following, if applicable:
    • In the ABN field, enter the Australian Business number.
    • In the Trading Name field, enter a “Doing Business As” name if the company name is different from the contractor's name.
  6. Click Save.
