Getting Started with Dashboards

Report visualization example.

You can use Dashboards in Reporting and Analytics to visualize Ad Hoc reports in Dayforce using embedded Power BI. Dashboards need some initial set up:

  1. Confirm that Reporting and Analytics is configured for your organization by the Ceridian Implementation team.
  2. Identify the user roles that need this feature in System Admin > Roles.
  3. Add the following role features in System Admin > Roles in the Features tab:
    • Reporting and Analytics > Reporting and Analytics Home
    • Application Container > Analyze Reports In PowerBI

If your organization also subscribes to People Analytics (Dashboards, System Visualizations, and Organization Measures), you have access to the following additional features:

  • Application Container > Analyze Reports In PowerBI > System Visualizations: Enables the ability to use system visualizations.
  • Application Container > Analyze Reports In PowerBI > Organization Measures: Enables the ability to visualize system measures. See “Measures” in the Dayforce Reporting and Analytics Guide.

After your setup is done, you can run dashboards for reports in various places in Dayforce. To run a dashboard:

  1. Select the report that you want to run a dashboard for. How you do this depends on where you are in the application:
    • In a feature screen, click Reports to open the dialog box and select the report from the list on the left side.
    • In Reporting and Analytics > Reporting > Reports, select the report in the report library list.
  2. Click the Run drop-down list.
  3. Click Dashboard.
  4. In the dialog box, click Run Dashboard. The report opens in edit mode and displays the Filters, Visualizations and Data panels.
  5. Use the controls in each panel to add and edit the elements in the report. For information on the controls in the Visualizations panels, see the Microsoft Power BI documentation. The Data panel displays the fields that you can use in the visualization. These fields come from Dayforce.
  6. Click Save. Alternatively, you can click Back to close edit mode without saving your changes.

For more information on Dashboards, see “Run Dashboards” in the Dayforce Reporting and Analytics Guide, or "Visualizing Data" in the Ceridian Education Center.

Experience with Power BI is helpful in developing visualizations. Microsoft offers Power BI training. Dashboards in a Day is a great starting point.
