Native Payroll and Enhanced Employee Gender

Dayforce supports over a hundred countries globally for Payroll, however only a few of these are classed as native. Native payroll is payroll that is calculated entirely within Dayforce, processed by the payroll and tax engine, and then sent directly to governments and financial institutions. Other types of payroll generally communicate only with partners and don’t process employee salary payments.

Because Dayforce must abide to the requirements of different countries when processing payroll information, there are some restrictions related to Enhanced Employee Gender must be observed.

If customers use Dayforce for payroll purposes, is it recommended that they select the Collect Assigned Sex Information option in the gender administration screen for the following reasons:

  • Assigned sex is the only value that will ever be used for Payroll. Gender identity isn’t used unless explicitly stated.
  • Dayforce will only ever use an applicable country value for payroll processing. For example, if an employee is in the United Kingdom, the United Kingdom-assigned sex value will be used.
  • If the country-specific assigned sex value is missing, an error will be shown, where possible.

If the Display Enhanced Gender Last Modification Information and Effective Dating client property is enabled, Dayforce will use the record for that particular pay period for payroll.

  • For example, if the pay period is January 1, 2023 to February 1, 2023 and there is an assigned sex value for this period it will be used by Payroll.
  • This is also the case for historical reporting of assigned sex information.

Compliance Code

In all circumstances, Dayforce uses the Compliance Code value for an assigned sex record when reporting it externally. The Dayforce Reference Code value is never used externally. For information about compliance codes, see Enhanced Employee Gender Administration Screen and the Compliance Framework.

State and Provinces within North America and Canada

State and province information is used only to report on employee information internally and externally for compliance purposes. Currently, state and province-specific assigned sex and gender identity information isn’t sent as a part of the payroll process.

Because Dayforce must send the correct information during payroll calculations, for many native countries there are legal restrictions as to what the compliance framework can supply to customers. The following table describes what options can be supplied by customers to their employees in each country that is supported by Dayforce native payroll.
