Enhanced Employee Gender is a set of features that fully replace the existing gender and gender identity options offered by Dayforce to our customers.
Why?
Compliance
In countries, states in the United States, and provinces in Canada, we’re seeing a shift in the accepted gender options available for citizens. As such, Dayforce must offer these options to be compliant in the areas where we offer our software.
Customer Needs
Customers have been asking for several years to expand on the options that they can offer their employees because gender is an important part of a person’s life and persona. In addition, gender as a term is becoming outdated. Gender has been renamed to assigned sex to reflect these changes in modern language.
Dayforce
Dayforce is a DEI-first organization (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). Implementing Enhanced Employee Gender shows that DEI matters as much to us as we indicate in marketing, press releases, and other materials.
How?
For Administrators
Enhanced Employee Gender allows administrators to offer non-binary options on a per-country, -state, or -province level using a configuration screen and compliance framework, helping to make sure that options are legally compliant. Also, administrators can deactivate the collection of assigned sex options, or set them to non-mandatory.
For Employees
With Enhanced Employee Gender, employees can provide their gender information, including nonbinary details, for the places they live, work, or want to be reported from.
When?
Enhanced Employee Gender is deployed to all customers in Dayforce Release 2025.1.0, starting February 2025 in non-production environments and March or later for production environments. For exact details about customer deployments, contact the hosting and support teams.
The following are the two options customers have for adoption and they both include a set of guidelines, and updates to use the functionality:
- Adopt Enhanced Employee Gender. See Adopting Enhanced Employee Gender.
- Don’t adopt Enhanced Employee Gender. See Not Adopting Enhanced Employee Gender.
Terminology Updates
The following gender functionality terms are used in Dayforce as of Dayforce Release 2025.1.0.
- Legacy: Refers to gender and gender identity values or system configuration that existed before Dayforce Release 2025.1.0.
- Enhanced: Refers to assigned sex or gender identity values or system configuration that exists after the Dayforce Release 2025.1.0.
