Backward compatibility allows existing customers to use Dayforce “as is” until they decide to update their configuration to support Enhanced Employee Gender.
Note: The terms legacy and enhanced are used throughout the topics on backward compatibility. Legacy refers to gender and gender identity values or system configurations that existed before Dayforce Release 2025.1.0. Enhanced refers to assigned sex or gender identity values that exist in Dayforce Release 2025.1.0 and later.
Why Is Backward Compatibility Needed?
For Dayforce Release 2025.1.0, all customers will have their gender and gender identity data and configuration moved to new tables in the system. Without backward compatibility, many areas of Dayforce will immediately stop working for customers, especially for custom elements. As such, product teams have put in place several mechanisms to help make sure that customers can use Dayforce Release 2025.1.0 without any issues, while also migrating them to Enhanced Employee Gender.
How Does Backward Compatibility Work?
Backward compatibility allows Dayforce customers to use legacy gender and gender identity options either until they’re ready to engage with the Enhanced Employee Gender functionality, or until they complete the migration of certain custom aspects of the system. Backward compatibility will either map data from legacy fields and entities to new enhanced fields, such as in forms and imports. Or, it will allow for the retrieval of information through legacy routes from enhanced data sources, such as in reports and legacy XML exports.
Unsupported Enhanced Employee Gender Features
If any of the following features are adopted by a customer, backward compatibility will no longer work. Customers who use any of the following functionality must update their custom configuration to support Enhanced Employee Gender:
- The Display Enhanced Gender Last Modification Information and Effective Dating client property is enabled
- Any configuration is done in the gender administration screen (HR Admin > Employee Gender Admin > Gender)
- Employees have multiple gender records
- Employees have state and province records
For information about how to update your custom configurations, see Custom Configuration Changes.
