Compliance Framework

A key component of the gender administration screen (HR Admin > Employee Gender Admin > Gender) is the compliance framework. The compliance framework makes sure that customers can’t add options that aren’t legally accepted in the areas they operate in. This compliance is achieved by a set of parameters in the Dayforce database, which instruct a particular country, state (in the United States), or province (in Canada). Customers will never see the compliance framework because it functions by automatically limiting options and preventing customers from making changes that fall outside of known laws and regulations. For many countries, states, and provinces, there are no limits to what customers can do, but for some there are legal boundaries that Dayforce must abide by.

Important: Anyone with customer database access should never modify the compliance tables in any way to prevent downstream impacts and potential legal issues for a customer.

In a country like Argentina, there are no restrictions because Dayforce doesn’t send legal gender information to any type of Argentinian government authority. So, customers can freely make changes to the gender administration screen as needed. However, in a country like the United Kingdom where payroll is processed natively, data must abide by legal restrictions. Customers must stick to the compliance framework options that are provided so that they can successfully process payroll.

Dayforce, Inc. will continue to update the compliance framework when the law changes.

For customers in countries such as the United Kingdom, this framework means that they’re restricted to only binary options. Customers in other countries will have additional non-binary options that are legally defined. We encourage customers with very restrictive regulations to provide options such as the ones described in the following table:

Suggested options for customers with restrictive regulations
Assigned Sex Name Reference Code Compliance Code Is System
Male M M Yes
Female F F Yes
Non-Binary (Male at Birth) UK_NB_M M No
Non-Binary (Female at Birth) UK_NB_F F No

This configuration allows customers to offer non-binary options even when values will still legally roll up and be reported as M or F.
