Clock entries are the timestamps that you record on the clock to mark when you’re working. Depending on your Dayforce configuration, you can perform the following clock entries in Work > Time Clock:
- Starting or ending a shift.
- Starting or ending a meal.
- Starting or ending a break.
Your organization’s time entry policy determines which clock functions are available. For example, if your time entry policy doesn’t support rest breaks, the clock doesn’t show options for starting and ending breaks.
By default, the clock home screen updates dynamically and shows the function that you’ll most likely use based on your schedule. For example, if you’re scheduled and you haven’t clocked in yet for your shift, the clock shows the Start Shift button in the home screen. If you’ve already clocked in and you’re scheduled for a meal later, the clock shows the Start Meal button.
You can only use functions that are valid based on your previous clock entries. For example, the End Meal button is unavailable unless you’ve already performed a Start Meal clock entry.
If you aren’t scheduled to work on the current day, the clock indicates that you’re unscheduled in the home screen. If you’re scheduled, the clock indicates when your shift begins. Also, depending on your Dayforce configuration, the clock might indicate if it’s too early or late to start your shift:
The clock also marks your current status. For example, after you clock in to start your shift, the clock indicates that you’re clocked in and shows your clock-in time.
Note: Depending on how Dayforce is configured, the clock might prompt you to record information when you clock out to end your shift. See Clock Out and Record Information.
To perform a clock entry:
- Go to Work > Time Clock.
- Do one of the following:
- Click the default function that’s available in the home screen (such as Start Shift or End Meal).
- Click View all clock functions and then in the All clock functions dialog box, click the appropriate button.
- Note: Remember, depending on whether you’re already clocked in, some clock entry options might be unavailable.
- Dayforce indicates if your clock entry was successful:

- After you perform a successful clock entry, the clock updates your status on the home screen:
