You can record your time by adding new shift segments to the timesheet.
To add shifts to your timesheet:

- Click the add row icon (
).
- Click the down arrow and in the drop-down menu, select Add New Shift.
- Click the add row icon (
- Depending on your configuration, you might also be able to add scheduled shifts that were already configured. See View, Link, and Unlink Schedules.
- Select a pay code. For example, you might typically mark worked time using the “Work” pay code.
- Do one of the following, depending on your configuration:
- In the Hours field, specify each segment’s length by entering the total number of hours.
- In the Start and End fields, specify the segment’s start and end times. Dayforce automatically populates the segment’s length in the Hours field.
- Note: Depending on how Dayforce is configured, the Start and End fields might be unavailable.
- (Optional) Specify a different location or job assignment, and record any projects, dockets, quantities, or comments. If user-defined labor metrics are configured for your organization, you can also record specific work details by selecting a labor metric code in the corresponding column.
- Click Save.
Add Secondary Shifts
If you work more than one shift in a day, you can record a second shift by adding another row.
If your instance of Dayforce requires that you enter the shift’s start and end times, the start time of the new shift defaults to the end time of the shift immediately before it. Dayforce populates this new shift’s start time automatically after you do one of the following:
- Specify a pay code for the new segment.
- Enter the segment’s duration in the Hours field. In this scenario, Dayforce also automatically populates the shift’s end time based on the duration you entered.
For example, one shift is already scheduled from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and an employee adds another shift to the same day with a duration of four hours. Dayforce sets the start time of the new shift to 2:00 PM and the end time to 6:00 PM.
