In the Configuration: Measures screen, Administrators can choose a calculation method for several of the measures that are used in Dashboards. You can choose from two or more options so that each measure is calculated according to your organization’s business rules.
Note: Changes that you make in this screen take effect after the Dashboards Data Preparation background job runs. Administrators can run the background job manually in System Admin > Background Jobs.
Below, you can find more information about the options that are available for each measure.
Headcount
You can select the method that Dayforce uses to calculate head count. Your selection affects the way the following fields are calculated:
- Headcount at Period Start
- Headcount at Period End
- Headcount
- Is New Hire
The following are the calculation options for the Headcount measure:
- Employee Start Date: Dayforce uses the employee start dates to calculate head count. Employees are included in the head count numbers as of their start date.
- Hire Date (this is the default option): Dayforce uses employee hire dates to calculate head count. Employees are included in the head count numbers as of their hire date. If an employee has been rehired, then their original hire date is used rather than their most recent hire date.
Headcount at Month Start & Headcount at Month End
You can specify whether Dayforce includes only active employees or active and inactive employees when it calculates head count at month start and month end.
The following are the calculation options for the Headcount at Month Start & Headcount at Month End measure:
Important: If you select Active and Inactive Employees here, you must select Only Terminated Employees as the Turnover Rate calculation option.
- Only Active Employees: Dayforce includes only employees with an active employment status in the calculation.
- Active and Inactive Employees: Dayforce includes all employees with active and inactive employment statuses in the calculation.
Turnover Rate
Some organizations consider only employees with a terminated status when they calculate turnover, while others also include other inactive statuses. You can select one of these methods to calculate turnover in Dashboards. Your selection affects the following fields:
- Turnover Rate
- Is Termination
The following are the calculation options for the Turnover Rate measure:
- Only Terminated Employees (this is the default option): Dayforce includes only employees with terminated status in the calculation for the turnover rate. The formula for the calculation is Terminations/((Headcount @ Period Start + Headcount @ Period End)/2).
- Note: You must select this option if Active and Inactive Employees is selected for the Headcount at Month Start & Headcount at Month End measure.
- Terminated and Inactive Employees: Dayforce includes employees with terminated status and employees with an inactive status. The formula for the calculation is (Terminations + Inactive Employees)/((Headcount @ Period Start + Headcount @ Period End)/2).
Length of Service
You can choose between several methods for calculating Length of Service in Dashboards. Your selection affects the way the following fields are calculated:
- Service Length
- Years of Service
- Months of Service
- Service Band
The following are the calculation options for the Length of Service measure:
- Employee Start Date: Dayforce uses the employee start date to determine an employee’s length of service in the Dashboards feature.
- Note: This is the default option for customers who were already using the Dashboards feature prior to Release 52.
- Hire Date: Dayforce calculates length of service using the employee’s hire date. If the employee has been rehired, Dayforce uses the latest Hire Date and not the Original Hire Date.
- Note: This option is the default for customers who began using the Dashboards feature in Release 52 or later.
- Original Hire Date: Dayforce calculates length of service starting from the employee’s original hire date.
- Seniority Date: Dayforce uses the employee’s seniority date to calculate length of service.
