Centralized Schedules Guide

Generate Schedules from Shift Rotations

In Centralized Schedules, you can generate schedules for your location using predefined shift rotations. For example, you could have three shift rotations available to your organization:

  • Evenings: Five shifts in a row scheduled from 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM, followed by two days off.
  • Days: Five shifts in a row scheduled from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, followed by two days off.
  • Weekends: Two shifts in a row scheduled from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, followed by five days off.

When generating schedules, you can make a schedule based on all or some of these shift rotations, and for all or some of your location's zones or jobs. For example, you could schedule a shift rotation for just the customer service zone. When you do, Dayforce schedules every customer service employee who is assigned to the selected shift rotation.

Before You Begin: You can use this functionality only in the single week view. Additionally, you must configure shift rotations in Scheduling Plan > Shift Setup, in the Shift Rotation tab, and then assign employees to shift rotations in People, in the Employment > Employment Settings screen. If you're unsure of which shift rotations to use, or don't have any available, contact your system administrator.

Role feature access:  Schedules > Shift Rotations

To generate schedules by shift rotations:

  1. Go to Centralized Schedules and load a template.
  2. Expand a location grouping in your hierarchy, then expand the Employee section.
  3. Click Generate > Shift Rotations. The Shift Rotations panel opens.
  4. In the Day of the Week selection list, select the days that you want to create shifts for.
  5. Drag the Delete existing shifts slider to specify which shifts to remove when Dayforce generates shift rotations:
    • Overlapping with Existing ShiftsDayforce doesn't create shifts that overlap.
    • Previous Rotations: Dayforce deletes existing shifts from previous rotations and replaces them.
    • All Shifts: Dayforce deletes all shifts on the schedule.
  6. Click View Filters. Then, click Add Filter to add the filters that you want to use to specify which employees to schedule to the shift rotation. See Filter Centralized Schedules.
  7. Click Generate > Shift Rotations again, and then click OK.
