Add Shifts for Groupings

After you load an operational template and expand your grouping hierarchy, you can add shifts at the hierarchy's bottom level. By adding shifts under your groupings, you can preconfigure the shifts with specific details (such as location and job) and select an employee to work it.

For example, say that you load an operational template with three grouping levels in the hierarchy: location, department, and job. If you add a shift at the bottom of the hierarchy, Dayforce applies the grouping’s location, department, and job to the shift by default.

If you add a shift under a grouping and edit its default details, Dayforce might place the shift under another grouping after you save your changes. For example, if you add a shift under the Receiving grouping but update the job assignment to Produce Clerk, Dayforce adds the shift under the Produce Clerk grouping.

To add a shift to your template’s grouping hierarchy:

  1. Go to Centralized Schedules and load a template.
  2. Expand your template’s grouping hierarchy to the lowest level and click the add icon on the appropriate day. The Add Schedule dialog box opens.
  3. In the Shift Details section:
    1. In the Employee drop-down list, select the employee that you want to assign to the shift. To create an unfilled shift, click Unfilled.
    2. (Optional) Select the shift's activity or origin and enter a comment.
  4. In the Segment Details section:
    1. Edit the default start and end times and, optionally, any of the shift's default details (for example, the location, job assignment, pay code, or docket).
    2. Note: Remember, if you edit some default details, the shift might move to another grouping.
    3. (Optional) To add an additional segment to the shift, click Add Segment. For example, you can add a segment if an employee transfers between job assignments or is paid using another pay code for a portion of their shift.
    4. Click Add Meal or Add Break and edit the rest period’s start and end times.
  5. Click Apply, then OK. Dayforce adds the shift under the grouping in your schedules’ hierarchy:

  7. Click Save.
