Pay Classes
In Dayforce, the pay class is a part of the employee profile that categorizes employees into groups with specific payroll rules and policies. Activate requires you to map the different pay classes into the Full Time and Part Time categories. These categories have implications regarding how Activate configures Dayforce and assigns employees to various attributes.
The Pay Classes populated in the Employee file display on this page. Activate automatically assigns the uploaded pay classes to the types if the pay classes provided are commonly named.
You can drag the items to different categories, as needed. Items that aren’t assigned to a category show in the Uncategorized category. You can filter the Uncategorized category to search for additional categories and map them accordingly.

Pay class categories
Full time
Full Time employees work a normal workweek for an indeterminate period of time. They typically have regular working hours and a regular schedule. Full time employees might have different eligibility for payroll policy, government restrictions for working hours and pay, and benefit setups.
Part time
Part Time employees work on an ongoing basis and might receive some benefits. However, they don’t work a normal full time schedule. Part Time employees can’t have regular working hours or a regular weekly schedule. Their hours vary, and their payroll policies, government restrictions for working hours and pay, and Benefit setups are likely more restricted than Full Time employees.
Tasks
To map a pay class to the appropriate category:
- Review the items on the page.
- If an item is in the wrong category, click and drag the item to the dark gray box under the appropriate category.
Note: You can click Ctrl+Shift to select and move multiple items at the same time.
- Repeat this process for any other items that are in the wrong category.
- Click Next.
To filter uncategorized Items:
- In the Uncategorized category, enter letters in the Filter field that are part of the name of the item you’re looking for.
For example, you might enter "pt" for part-time.
- Click Enter. Any items that include the letters you entered as part of their name show under the Filter field.
- Click and drag the item from the Uncategorized category to the dark gray box under the appropriate category, as needed.
You can click multiple items to select them and drag them all at once to the same category.
