Getting Started

The Getting Started wizard initializes the Dayforce environment by setting up the Organizational Hierarchy and core employee attributes. It then uses four simple data imports to load the employees into the system.

  1. Employee Data import

Includes the Unique Employee Identifier, Name, Date of Birth, Date of Hire. After this set of data is installed, Activate:

    • Installs the core functionality for the Human Resources, Time, and Payroll wizards.

Note: The Getting Started wizard installs the updated 2025 minimum wages for California and New York.

    • Creates Human Resources records for each employee.
    • Assigns employees to work assignments and policies.
  2. Employee Addresses import

The Employee Addresses import applies the appropriate state and local tax jurisdiction assignments for countries that derive taxes based on home addresses.

  3. Addresses import

The Addresses import generates the Organizational Hierarchy and applies geographically driven configuration like Organization Hierarchy, Pay Policies, and Pay Groups.

  4. Legal Entities import

The Legal Entities import loads the FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number) for US entities and Business Number for Canadian Entities. Also load unique company IDs for any other country.

Bypassing the Getting Started wizard

If employee records already exist in Dayforce, Activate prompts you to bypass the Getting Started wizard and instead use the Employees wizard in the Load My Data section of Activate Central to add more employees.

Country-specific wizards

User access to country-specific wizards is restricted to countries that are:

  • Specified in their initial employee dataset using the Getting Started wizard.

  • Associated with a pay group that’s relevant to that country using the Pay Group Editor wizard or directly in Dayforce.

  • Configured using the Manage Countries wizard.
