Time Away From Work

Dayforce Release Notes version 2024.2.1

Version
R2024.2.1

WCI-2404, WFM-2404

Added support for partial and half-day time away from work (TAFW) for organizations that use daily balance units for time away.

Role Feature Access:

  • Time Away From Work > Partial TAFW Definition
  • Time Away From Work > Time Off Policy > Partial TAFW Assignment
  • Time Away From Work > Time Off Policy > Schedule Instructions
  • Time Away From Work > Time Off Policy > TAFW Reason Codes Control

In Time Away From Work > Partial TAFW Definition, you can create a partial TAFW definition which divides days into specific segments that employees can request for time away. You can configure your partial TAFW definition so that Dayforce divides the day into two segments for half-day TAFW, or you can customize the number of segments (up to 12). You must also configure how Dayforce calculates the length of each segment.

For example, you can configure partial TAFW so that employees can choose from three segments when requesting time away:

  • Morning (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM)
  • Afternoon (12:00 PM to 3:00 PM)
  • Late afternoon (3:00 PM to 6:00 PM)

After you configure a partial TAFW definition, you can assign it to a time off policy in Time Away From Work > Time Off Policy in the Partial TAFW section. To assign a partial TAFW definition to a time off policy, select it in the Available column and move it to the Selected column.

Note: At this time, partial TAFW definitions aren’t compatible with time off polices that are configured with the Only selected schedule(s) setting enabled. This setting is located in Time Away From Work > Time Off Policy in the Duration section.

Optionally, in Time Away From Work > Time Off Policy in the Reason Codes Control section, you can configure which types of time away are supported at the TAFW pay code (or reason code) level. For example, you can configure your sick TAFW reason code to support partial-day TAFW, even if your time off policy is configured to support only all-day TAFW. By configuring a record in the Reason Codes Control section, you can override some of your default time off policy configuration that applies to all TAFW reason codes and create conditional exceptions for specific TAFW reason codes.

Optionally, in Time Away From Work > Time Off Policy in the Schedule Instructions section, you can configure how Dayforce treats approved TAFW that overlaps with scheduled shifts. If an employee was scheduled to work on Tuesday but they later submitted and were approved for TAFW for Tuesday, Dayforce can adjust the schedule based on your requirements. You can set your time off policy so that Dayforce converts the whole shift to an unfilled shift, retains it as a non-productive shift, or deletes it, among other options.

Note: The settings in the Reason Codes Control and Schedule Instructions sections are not mandatory for partial TAFW. These settings can also be applied to standard, full-day TAFW functionality or partial-day TAFW with hourly balances.

Lastly, a new parameter was added to the Work > Calendar role feature in System Admin > Roles in the Features tab. Click the parameters configuration icon ( Image ) to set the new Schedule Display parameter. This parameter controls how Dayforce shows schedule durations for employee roles in Work > Calendar on days that they also have approved TAFW.

After you update your time off policy with partial TAFW functionality, employees can click Day Segments when requesting time away and choose the appropriate segment. Dayforce shows the duration of each segment in the read-only fields after users click a segment:

"Time away request with the segment options for morning

Note: At this time, if you configure your time off policy with partial TAFW functionality, the Day Segments option is available only when employees request time away from work in the web version of Dayforce.
