Worked Minutes Qualifier

Dayforce Implementation Guide

Version
R2025.1.1
Worked Minutes Qualifier

The Worked Minutes Qualifier restricts the associated rule to run only if employees have worked a specified number of minutes in a configurable previous period. For example, the qualifier can restrict rules to run only if employees have worked at least 1,200 minutes (20 hours) in the past seven days.

Optionally, you can use the qualifier to restrict the associated rule to run only if employees have worked less than a specified number of minutes. Using the qualifier’s settings, you can set how many days Dayforce looks back when determining if the employee worked the threshold, and what time is considered eligible work. You can also configure the qualifier to check that employees worked the specified number of minutes on each separate day that the qualifier examines, instead of adding up all of the time the employee worked in the specified date range. For example, the qualifier can be configured to ensure that employees worked at least four hours on each day, during the past five days. This functionality is controlled by the Check threshold each specified look back day checkbox.

Worked Minutes Qualifier settings
Setting Description
Number of minutes worked The number, in minutes, that represents the worked time threshold. This field accepts both positive and negative values. If the Worked less than specified minutes checkbox is cleared, the qualifier restricts the associated rule to run only for employees who have worked beyond the threshold. If the checkbox is selected, the associated rule runs only for employees who have worked less than the threshold.
Worked less than specified minutes Restrict the associated rule to run for employees who have worked less than the threshold set by the Number of minutes worked field. Clear the checkbox to restrict the rule to run for employees who have worked beyond the threshold.
Number of days to look back The number of days prior the qualifier examines when determining if the employee worked the Number of days worked value.
Use Current Week Restrict the qualifier to the current week, up to the Number of days to look back value, when examining if an employee worked the minute threshold. For example, using a week that starts on a Sunday, with the checkbox selected and 7 entered in the Number of days to look back field, Dayforce will look back only to Monday and Sunday for worked minutes. With the checkbox cleared, the qualifier isn’t restricted by the end of the week and it always looks back at the Number of days to look back value.
  • Consider the entire current week for worked shifts

Dayforce considers the entire current week when qualifying worked minutes. With this functionality configured, Dayforce can look ahead to the end of the week, even if the day being processed is in the middle of the week.

Note: Dayforce doesn’t include pay adjustments and modified work details that occur after the day that is being processed. Only work hours recorded through employees’ clock entries are included.

Start from hire date Start examining the number of minutes an employee has worked on the employee’s hire date.
Evaluation Period The length of the evaluation period, in weeks. You can select a value between one and eight.
  • Evaluation Period Start Date
The start date of the evaluation period.
  • Evaluation Period Type

The period type for the evaluation. Select one of the following options:

  • Distinct Period: The associated rule evaluates the period in distinct blocks of time. For example, say that you configured the qualifier so that employees can work a maximum of 80 hours in a two-week period. When you select Distinct Period, the rule engine examines weeks one and two separately and then examines weeks three and four separately. The distinct period begins on the date specified in the Evaluation Period Start Date field.
  • Rolling Period: The associated rule looks back and ahead when determining the number of minutes an employee worked during a period. For example, say that you configured the qualifier so that employees can work a maximum of 80 hours in a two-week period. In week two of the period, Dayforce looks back at the total number of minutes worked in week one and looks ahead at the minutes scheduled in week three.
Pay codes eligible The pay codes that mark eligible work. The qualifier considers time marked with one of the selected pay codes as work and counts it toward the Number of minutes worked threshold. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider pay codes when determining eligible time.
Pay codes ineligible The pay codes that mark ineligible time. The qualifier doesn’t consider time marked with one of the selected pay codes as work. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider pay codes when determining ineligible time.
Pay categories eligible The pay categories that mark eligible work. The qualifier considers time marked with one of the selected pay categories as work and counts it toward the Number of minutes worked threshold. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider pay categories when determining eligible time.
Pay categories ineligible The pay categories that mark ineligible time. The qualifier doesn’t consider time marked with one of the selected pay categories as work. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider pay categories when determining ineligible time.
Departments eligible The departments that can contribute time toward the Number of minutes worked threshold. Only eligible work within one of the selected departments counts toward the threshold. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider departments when determining eligible time.
Departments ineligible The departments that are ineligible so that time within them doesn’t count toward the Number of minutes worked threshold. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider departments when determining ineligible time.
Jobs eligible The jobs that are eligible to count towards the threshold. Only time spent working one of the selected jobs counts toward the threshold. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider jobs when determining eligible time.
Jobs ineligible The jobs that are ineligible to count towards the threshold. Time employees spend working these jobs doesn’t count toward the Number of minutes worked threshold. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider jobs when determining ineligible time.
Projects Eligible The projects that are eligible when determining the threshold. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider projects when determining eligible time.
Projects Ineligible The projects that are ineligible when determining the threshold. Leave blank and the qualifier doesn’t consider projects when determining ineligible time.
Include premiums as work Select the checkbox and the qualifier considers premiums with an eligible pay code or pay category as work and counts their duration toward the Number of minutes worked threshold.
Include current day

Includes the current day when determining if employees worked the Number of minutes worked threshold.

Clear the checkbox and Dayforce begins searching for eligible days worked on the previous day, up to the threshold specified in the Number of days to look back field.

Use employee statistics Restricts the associated rule to run only for employees affected by the selected employee statistic.
Use end current pay period

The qualifier evaluates worked minutes on every day of a pay period and sums the worked minutes for the pay period as of the current day. If the sum thus far is at least the threshold specified in the Number of minutes worked field, it passes and the associated rule qualifies.

This checkbox differs from the Run only on pay period end checkbox in that it evaluates every day and considers the worked minutes earned in the pay period as of that date. The Run only on pay period end checkbox evaluates the worked minutes only on the last day of the pay period. Consider an example where the qualifier is configured with 100 in the Number of minutes worked field. An employee reaches 100 minutes three days into the current pay period. With the Use end current pay period checkbox selected, the employee would qualify for the associated rule on the day they reach that threshold, and every day after. Conversely, with the Run only on pay period end checkbox selected, the employee qualifies only on the last day of the pay period (or on their termination date), regardless of which day they reached the threshold.

Run only on pay period end

The qualifier only evaluates worked minutes on the last day of a pay period, or on an employee’s termination date, and sums the worked minutes for that entire pay period, including the current day.

This checkbox differs from the Use end current pay period checkbox in that it evaluates the worked minutes only on the last day of the pay period. The Use end current pay period checkbox evaluates every day and considers the worked minutes earned in the pay period as of that date.

Check threshold each specified look back day

Verifies that employees worked the specified number of minutes on each separate day that the qualifier examines, instead of adding up all of the time the employee worked in the specified date range. For example, with this functionality configured, the qualifier can check that employees worked at least four hours on each day during the past five days.

When selected, Dayforce examines each day individually and compares the number of minutes worked to the number of minutes specified in the existing Number of minutes worked field. For example, with 240 specified in the Number of minutes worked field, 5 in the Number of days to look back field, and the Check threshold each specified look back day checkbox selected, Dayforce examines each of the previous five days. If the employee has worked at least 240 minutes on each day in the previous five days, the associated rule qualifies.

With the Check threshold each specified look back day checkbox cleared, the qualifier examines the past five days at once and if the employee has worked at least 240 minutes at any time during the previous five days, the associated rule qualifies.

Include SUN
Include MON
Include TUE
Include WED
Include THU
Include FRI
Include SAT

Note: The Check threshold each specified look back day checkbox must be selected to enable this functionality.

Use these checkboxes to configure which days of the week the qualifier examines. You can use these checkboxes to configure the qualifier to examine only the corresponding days of the week that fall within the date range specified in the Number of days to look back field.

For example, select the Include SAT and Include SUN checkboxes and Dayforce examines only the minutes employees work on weekends that fall within the date range specified in the Number of days to look back field. If 2 is entered in the Number of days to look back field, on Monday the qualifier would look back two days. Because those two days are Saturday and Sunday, it examines the number of minutes worked and compares it to the threshold specified in the existing Number of minutes worked field. When these include checkboxes are cleared, the qualifier examines any day that falls within the number of days specified in the Number of days to look back field.

Specified day has calendar event Dayforce checks that the specified days include a calendar event.
Qualify for any specified day (SUN- SAT)

Dayforce checks that any one of the days specified (SUN - SAT) meets the criteria. When this checkbox is cleared, all of the days specified must meet the criteria to be qualified.

Note: For this setting to function correctly, it must be used in conjunction with the Check threshold each specified lookback day setting.

Invert Output By default, this checkbox is cleared and employees qualify for the associated rule when they meet the criteria configured in the other settings. With this checkbox selected, the reverse is true and employees who meet the criteria are disqualified instead. For example, this checkbox can be selected to determine days without any work details.
